In
the Baix Empordà area you will enjoy the most authentical
Costa Brava. We can place it between
Alt Empordà and
Gironès regions and it is a land rich in crops such as apple, rice and grapes. The Baix Empordà has a large, mostly flat area with some hillocks, among them the
Montgrí massif, where you will find its castle at the top. This place was already inhabited in Prehistory, you can still visit remains in some places, and it has also been the land of pirates. The area has lived many changes throughout history due to wars, dictatorships and economic crises, but in 1978 with the arrival of democracy, the tourism arrived in the territory made the final boost to enjoy the Baix Empordà that we have today.
The Baix Empordà region has many
secrets to discover, but the ones that will most surprise you are
the coves and beaches that it hides. We can highlight the beach of Aiguablava, Illa Roja,
Aigua Xelida, El Castell, La Fonda... among many others. Also worthy of note is
La Gola del Ter, where the Ter river flows after being born in Ulldeter, in
the heart of the Pyrenees, and crossing the entire Catalan territory. The beaches and coves of the Baix Empordà can be used differently in summer or winter: in winter you can either walk along its beaches or practice trekking along its costal path, and during the summer the
"xiringuitos" , the water sports and sun creams will be the protagonists.
In the
Baix Empordà you will find many things to do and visit, surely in just one time you will not do enough to see everything the territory offers you. But we can recommend some places that we believe you can not miss.
Peratallada is one of the most enchanting and bucolic walled
medieval villages on the
Costa Brava, where you will find narrow streets made of stone, where the circulation of vehicles is not allowed and where there is a great offer of restaurants, losing yourself through its streets is always a good option to spend the day. There is also
the Far de Sant Sebastià, in Llafranc, where you will enjoy magnificent views of the town and the sea. If you like "tapeo" after a good bath, Palamós is your place. Walk through its streets, where you will find different bars where there are plenty of tapas. There is also the fish market, where you will find the fish auctions. If you are interested in seeing its operation, you can take a guided tour.
If we enter a little more inland, we recommend the capital of the region,
La Bisbal de l'Empordà. Its main attraction and source of income is ceramics both artisanal and industrial. If you take a walk, you will find many shops that show their best pieces on the street and that you can buy at a good price.
In this territory
you can do many activities with friends or family. Throughout the year there are many popular parties in the towns that make up the Empordà territory. We highlight the
summer markets with concerts, artisan shops, food trucks, etc., among many other activities.
