Until the 19th century, Santa Cristina d'Aro and, therefore, Romanyà de la Selva, was part of the core of Castell d'Aro. In 1808 it was segregated together with three parishes: Bell-lloc, Solius and Romanyà de la Selva. Consequently, the old parish of Romanyà was one of the four founding parts of the current municipality of Santa Cristina.
