Visit the Castle of Peratallada

Peratallada Castle is said to have been built in 1065. But it is not just any castle: in 1390, King John I of Aragon, known as the hunter, stayed there for a season. Currently, the central nave, the tribute tower and part of the wall are preserved.

Enter the Church of Sant Esteve

One of the essential things to do in the town of Peratallada is to visit the Church of Sant Esteve. This medieval architectural gem of the late 12th century was built in Romanesque style. It stands out for its facade and its bell tower with four pointed arches.

Stroll through the center of Peratallada

One of the mandatory stops in the historic center of Peratallada, where you will find some very interesting restored rural houses, is the Portal de la Verge, one of the main access gates to the village. Today, only the towers and walls remain, but there used to be a bridge.

After the Portal de la Verge you arrive at Carrer de la Roca. This is where the name of the village comes from: on the street you will see how the stones were cut to shape the streets of the town. If you continue straight on, you will reach Plaça dels Esquiladors and Carrer Hospital, some of the most touristic and photogenic places in the town of Peratallada.
