Do you want to discover one of the most impressive castles in the Empordà? Towards Peralada there are not enough people! A town on the Empordà plain, located just over fifteen minutes from Figueres, the capital of Alt Empordà, and known, above all, for the International Music Festival that fills the town with tourists every summer.
The first walled village of Peralada dates back to 500 BC and was founded by the Iberians at the top of the hill. During the Middle Ages, Peralada lived through a period of splendor from which many buildings and monuments remain, including the house where Ramon Muntaner, the famous medieval chronicler, was born.
Peralada is full of must-sees: At the entrance, the castle of Peralada, built at the end of the 13th century and restored at the end of the 19th, which hosts the well-known Peralada International Music Festival every summer. Close by, you will find the Carmel convent, which houses the Castle museum and is also worth seeing. You can't miss either: the Jewish quarter, the old hospital, the convent of Sant Bartomeu and the old castle, the Casa dels Muntaner, the church of Santa Eulàlia and, finally, the Romanesque church of Sant Martí which, in its interior preserves a set of miniature cribs from the 1940s.
Peralada also offers the possibility of practicing sports such as horse riding (at Les Forques), golf at the Golf Club or cycling along one of the routes that surround the town. If you like wine, you can also visit the Castell de Peralada winery, part of the Empordà designation of origin.
