An immense historical heritage and a wide range of activities linked to nature, such as hiking, cycle tourism or mountain bike routes, is what you will find in Forallac, a municipality located in the heart of the Baix Empordà, very close to the Costa Brava.
The history of Forallac is very curious. The municipality was born in 1977, when a conglomerate was formed that brought together the terms of Fonteta, Peratallada and Vulpellac. The aim was to optimize resources and create common development and expansion strategies.
Forallac is full of must-sees. First of all, it is a land with a medieval past and contains three castles that are worth seeing: that of Peratallada , originally from the 11th century; the castle of Vulpellac , Gothic-Renaissance style and declared a National Monument in 1931, and the castle of Peralta , from the 11th century. You can also visit the set of dolmens , which will allow you to discover the megalithic monuments of Tres Peus, Tres Caires or the Serra de Cals . Alternatively, you can choose to visit one of its churches, such as Santa Coloma de Fitor, from the 10th century, or Peratallada, from the 12th century.
If you spend a few days in Forallac and feel like walking, don't miss the hiking route that joins the termini of Fonteta and Fitor. It is a 16 kilometer route that crosses places such as the Creu dels Frares pass, the Falguerar and old farmhouses. The nearby areas of the Gavarres massif also offer many paths ideal for cycling or mountain biking.
