If you want to discover the cultural essence of the Costa Brava and stroll through a fortified medieval town, Palau-sator is not crowded! A municipality in the Baix Empordà with an extensive architectural heritage.
Although the ceramic remains found in the 70s of the last century indicate signs of Roman origins, the first documentation that appears about Palau-sator dates back to 904. Between the 13th and 14th centuries it is common to see recorded the municipality with two formulations: either the original Palau or with the addition of Sa Tor ('the Tower').
Palau-sator, as we have already said, is full of must-sees. At the entrance, you can visit the remains of the old wall , which preserves elements of the period. The southern portal, which communicates with the Hores tower , was declared a National Asset of Cultural Interest. This tower attached to the wall still serves today as an access road to the old quarter of the municipality. The old castle, from the 10th century, is also listed as a National Cultural Interest. It is also worth visiting the hermitage of Sant Julià de Boada , one of the best-preserved pre-Romanesque monuments in Catalonia.
If you stay in a holiday cottage in Palau-sator, you have the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the inland landscape of the Costa Brava, stroll through the old town and let yourself be permeated by the medieval aftertaste. You can also visit the medieval town of Peratallada or even visit the remains of the Iberian town of Ullastret.
