The history of Garriguella and its surroundings

Although it is already recorded in 982 that the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes had possessions in the villa Novas, it is not until 1218 that the monastery of Santa Maria del Camp de Garriguella is mentioned and the toponym is mentioned. From 1778, the center of Garriguella grew considerably and the layout of the main streets was defined. In the 20th century, during the Spanish Civil War, the Republican Airfield on the outskirts of the town was bombed and, for this reason, a tombstone still commemorates the death of an aviator.
