Between Figueres and La Jonquera, in the first foothills of the Sierra de l'Albera, we find the small town of Capmany. A town in the Alt Empordà that offers a lot of tourist possibilities: megalithic routes full of stories, wine tourism and nature.
The various megalithic monuments in the municipality already show human presence from 3300-2700 BC. It is not, however, until the 16th century that Capmany and its parish, that of Santa Àgata, appear in a document from the monastery of Vilabertran. As a curiosity: Although Capmany is the official toponym, the Institut d'Estudis Catalans has always defended the form Campmany, in accordance with the etymology and spelling of Catalan.
If you stay in a holiday cottage in Capmany, you can visit the church of Santa Àgata, from the 12th and 13th centuries, and the chapel of Sant Sebastià , from the 16th century. Capmany, however, is also known for its fountains, mainly for those that were in the Banys de la Mercè spa last century: the Mare de Déu de la Mercè or Pudosa, Sant Rafel and the Rovellada fountain . Nor can you forget to visit some of its wineries with the Empordà designation of origin, such as Celler Arché Pagès, Celler Marià Pagès or Celler Pere Guardiola, among others. Capmany, you'll see, is an unmissable place for wine and cava lovers.
If you feel like walking, do not hesitate and enter the megalithic route: The Oscil·lant Stone, the Quer Afumat dolmen and menhir, the Quer Afumat I menhir, the Comanera right stone I and II, the Vidal menhir and finally the Stone of Sacrifices. And if you want to keep walking, the Sierra de l'Albera offers plenty of routes and excursions for the whole family.
