In the small town of Cantallops, located in the Alt Empordà, between the Albera mountain range and the Empordà plain, you can find very authentic holiday cottages and ideal tourist accommodation to enjoy this town known, above all, for the its megalithic route and its sources. A town full of history and nature ideal for hiking and lovers of cultural tourism.

What can I do in Cantallops and its holiday cottages?

To the south of the Sierra de l'Albera and very close to La Jonquera, we find the small town of Cantallops. A town full of history surrounded by nature that will fascinate lovers of active and cultural tourism.

The history of Cantallops and its surroundings

Cantallops was born in 942, under the name of Cantalupis, around the castle, now gone. The megalithic route of the Requesens dolmens, which goes all the way to Jonquera, demonstrates, however, human settlement during the Neolithic. As a historical curiosity, on the night of January 27, 1939, at the end of the Spanish Civil War, the politician Antoni Rovira i Virgili , his family and other deputies of the Parliament of Catalonia, spent the night in a farmhouse in the village, the Bell-loc, on the way to exile.

What to do during your stay at a tourist accommodation in Cantallops

Learn about its medieval past and architectural heritage

If you stay in a holiday cottage in Cantallops, you will notice that it is made of stone, and still preserves the medieval layout. However, it is worth walking through the town and going to the wall, right in the center of the village, the Plaça del Fort, the Plaça Major and the church of Sant Esteve, the former chapel of the fortress. You can also take the opportunity to get to know the old monastery of Sant Bartomeu de Bell-lloc , of which there are few remains, or the Mas Bell-lloc, a large house completely renovated with a typical modernist style.

Hiking around Cantallops

Cantallops is in a privileged and transitional area, between the Sierra de l'Albera and the Empordà plain. So if you like walking, you're in luck. You can tour the Albera Natural Reserve or learn about the area's springs, such as the Solana spring, the Tina spring, the Ferreret spring or the Nova spring.

Do the megalithic route of the Requesens dolmens

If you love history, this is a tour not to be missed. Of course, it includes archaeological remains belonging to Cantallops and La Jonquera. The Cantallops dolmens are those of Collet de Baix, Coll de Medàs I, Coma de Gall, Coll del Medàs III and Puig Gros.

Rest and disconnect. Comfort, to REPEAT.

The house is fully equipped, very comfortable and convenient to enjoy it. In a quiet environment, but integrated into Capmany, so pleasant walks and good local food. Nuria has always been aware that everything was to our liking, solving our doubts and providing valuable information for other occasions. We have spent a few days accompanied by our children (25 and 22 years old) and their partners, and the stay has been comfortable for everyone. We will certainly repeat.

MartaEl Portaló de Cantallops - With the family

Family space that lets you breathe

We repeated! The space allows the family to be together but everyone has a space and you don't feel overwhelmed. The environment is also exceptional. Kids have everything to keep them entertained, both inside and outside. The only improvement I would hope for is to change the curtains which are not black out and too short (especially in the outer room of four and the moon wakes up young and old too early); also change some auxiliary tables and lamps that are too simple (with little investment it would raise the feeling of luxury).

Naturaki respond: Thank you, Marta, for your review and thank you for repeating El Portaló de Cantallops. We love that our guests enjoy and perceive the diversity of spaces to enjoy that the house has. In relation to what you are commenting on, we appreciate your comments, they always help us to improve. Just this summer we plan to change the blackout curtains, so we will take into account your comments about the blackout. As for the lamps, you will have seen that there are different models and each one fulfills a different function... but we appreciate your constructive comments, and will take them into account for future changes and improvements. Thanks again for your honesty, Eliana.

Weekend in Cal Ferrer del Castell

The house is fine. Clean and very complete in terms of rooms and toilets. But it was so hot there, lucky for the air conditioning. The space with pool and porch is also good especially if you go with pets. Very friendly reception with a welcome detail and everything.
