In the small town of Agullana, located in the Alt Empordà and very close to La Jonquera and the border with France, you can find very authentic holiday cottages and tourist accommodation ideal for enjoying this small town that extends between the Guilla river valley and the Alberes, in the Pyrenees. An ideal town for lovers of hiking, mountain bike routes and cultural tourism.

What can I do in Agullana and its holiday cottages?

Megalithic monuments, hiking and lots of history. These are some of the things you will find in Agullana, a small town in the Alt Empordà located five kilometers from La Jonquera and which is part of the Salines-Bassegoda consortium. This is the town where the last meetings of the Republican government took place before going into exile, during the Spanish Civil War .

The history of Agullana and its surroundings

Agullana has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the four megalithic monuments known as Can Bec de Baix , corresponding to the Bronze Age. However, the first documentary reference to Agullana can be found in 1019, under the name of Aguliana. What has marked much of Agullana's history, however, is its location, near the Vallespir and the border with France. In fact, during the 17th and 19th centuries, the town became a sort of stable camp for the armies of both sides. Later, at the beginning of 1939, shortly before the end of the Spanish Civil War, Agullana was a transit territory for many people who went into exile, among whom there were a handful of prominent politicians, such as Lluís Companys .

What to do during your stay at a tourist accommodation in Agullana

Take a historical route through the town

If you like history, Agullana is full of must-sees. On the one hand, you can visit its megalithic monuments: three dolmens and two menhirs that are worth seeing. You also can't miss the Can Bech de Baix Necropolis, a late Bronze Age site where you'll also find a permanent exhibition. And, finally, you can choose to see the monument to Lluís Companys, 123rd president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, assassinated in 1940. A monument to exile.

Hiking and mountain bike routes through the Albera Natural Park

If you want to get to know the forests of Albera, through oak, oak and chestnut trees and the Salines-Bassegoda, there is no shortage of people heading to Agullana! You will find plenty of ideal routes for walking or mountain biking, such as the one that goes from Agullana to the Ermita de Santa Eugènia or the one that goes through Darnius.

Juan IgnacioCan Quilus - With the family

The house is very beautiful and comfortable, except for some aspects that I enumerate:

- The air conditioning works well, but it's difficult to interpret and quite unclear for the remote control. We spent a week and only figured it out in the last two days (we are people very accustomed to various brands). - We didn't like that the bathrooms don't have doors... - Also, the TV remote control is not easy (it has the "advantage" that we barely saw it...).

Naturaki respond: Thank you for your detailed feedback. We are pleased that, although you had some difficulties with the commands, the experience was positive.

We spent some very peaceful days

We've spent some very peaceful days. It's what you're looking for when you go to these places. The house was very good, we didn't miss anything. What we haven't solved is the collection of organic waste... The little ones enjoyed the indoor pool. Good location for wandering around the area.

Naturaki respond: Thank you very much, Carme, for sharing your experience. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the peaceful days and that the house met your expectations, especially for the little ones with the indoor pool. We take note regarding the organic waste collection and will review it for future improvement. We hope to have you back soon!

S.El Portaló de Cantallops - With the family

Tranquility, excellent gastronomy and communication

The house is in a very quiet and very pleasant village. The restaurants serve very good food at a very affordable price. There are beautiful villages and beaches an hour away by car. The pool is small but pleasant. Communication is excellent. As a negative point: for this price you expect the furniture to be more comfortable (less IKEA), with chairs and loungers that don't dig into your body. And in the summer it gets very hot, so much so that the fans don't seem to be enough. The problem is also that, with the tramontana, you can't sleep with the windows open either. Even though I don't like it, I think air conditioning should be installed. We still really enjoyed spending two weeks here.

Naturaki respond: Thank you very much for sharing your experience. We are pleased to know that you enjoyed the tranquility of the town and the meals at the local restaurants. We take note of your comments on the comfort of the furniture and the heat this summer is exceptionally high, and we will review how we can improve it. We are pleased that, despite everything, you enjoyed your stay with us.

NicomedesEl Portaló de Cantallops - With friends

Enjoying tranquility and comforts

We have had a good time in a very quiet house, although it was very hot in the rooms, except in one that had air conditioning. We have been lucky with the north wind at night, which left us a bit of freshness. It has good appliances, a perfect pool to soak and relax in the hammocks. It has a barbecue, although we have not used it. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary utensils. In short, okay, although it needs a bit of indoor maintenance, such as painting, etc.

Naturaki respond: We are glad that you enjoyed the house and its tranquility. We take note of your comment about the heat in the rooms and the maintenance, we will review it to improve the experience of our guests. Thank you for sharing your opinion, Nicomedes!
