What can I do in Boadella i Les Escaules and its holiday cottages?
Nature and history. This is what you will find in Boadella i Les Escaules, two towns in the
Alt Empordà located in the Muga valley, about twenty kilometers from
Figueres. An ideal place for lovers of photography and hiking.
The history of Boadella i Les Escaules and its surroundings
Boadella was a small group of scattered farmhouses until, between the 10th and 11th centuries, the castle of Boadella was built, which, little by little, became the primitive origin of the urban center of the present town. At the end of the 10th century, in fact, both Boadella i Les Escaules became properties of the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. During the 13th and 14th centuries, in the middle of the feudal era, the walls began to be built to protect the population that gathered around the castle. And, a century later, the first stone houses were built in the old town, such as Can Serra, which is still preserved. The population began to increase towards the 17th-18th centuries, thanks to the cultivation of vines and olive trees, so that new houses were built outside the old perimeter of the wall. In 2008, Boadella i Les Escaules was one of the nine founding members of the Association of Micro-towns of Catalonia.

However, you also cannot miss the castle of Les Escaules, which, although it appears documented in 1123, the current remains are from the 14th-15th centuries, and the castle-palace of Boadella , a large Gothic mansion located in front of the main square.
Stroll around Muga
If you want to walk for a while and enjoy nature, the Muga pass through Boadella i Les Escaules offers fascinating corners, such as the Salt de la Caula, one of the most beautiful places in the area, the fountain and the Mas bridge, the mill of les Puces or the cave of les Encantades , from where you will have spectacular views. All without forgetting the Boadella swamp, one of the district's tourist attractions.
