It is one of the most populated municipalities in Gironès and, despite being part of the urban area of the capital, it has managed to keep its own profile.
Archaeological evidence has been found that suggests that the area where Salt is located has been inhabited since prehistoric times because remains of human settlements and stone tools have been discovered that date back to very ancient times. During the Middle Ages, Salt was known as Salt de Sarrià and was part of the county of Girona. The presence of a castle in the area suggests that it was a strategic place during this time, although the castle no longer exists today.
If you spend a few days in a holiday cottage in Salt, you cannot miss the following must-sees: The parish church of Sant Cugat , from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a rectangular plan and a semicircular apse. In the old part of Salt, you will also find another must-see: the Torre Farga or Sant Dionís, a fifteen-metre-high defensive element from the 15th century. Finally, it is worth visiting the Coma Cros Cultural Factory , one of the most representative examples of industrial heritage. Currently, it is a cultural facility that takes advantage of the facilities of the textile factory founded in the middle of the 19th century.
If you feel like walking, in Salt you will find the ideal environment: Les Deveses de Salt . A protected natural space located near the river Ter and made up of an area of wetlands and riparian forests. They are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna species and are a popular spot for bird watching and especially for hiking. An ideal park for walking, running or cycling.
