The story of Darnius and its surroundings

Darnius appears mentioned for the first time in 983, under the Latin toponym of Darnicibus, belonging to the county of Besalú. Although in the term we find signs of Neolithic settlements, such as the dolmen of Mas Puig de Cabaneres or the menhir of Pedra Dreta . Taking advantage of the amount of oak groves in the area, an important cork industry developed in Darnius from the 19th century, which lasted well into the 20th century. In 1954, the Boadella marsh was built which, although it was originally supposed to be located in Boadella, technical reasons made it necessary to change its location, which finally happened in Darnius.

A fantastic, charming house to enjoy and relax in

We spent the weekend with family to celebrate a special birthday. The house, the surroundings, everything was perfect... A charming, well-equipped stone terraced house. So why not 5 stars? First, because the mattresses aren’t comfortable. You can sleep, yes, but depending on your back, don’t expect to get much rest. It should be said that some of the mattresses were in good condition, but others weren’t. It rained a lot over the weekend, and one of the bedrooms had some serious leaks. They woke us up; we cleaned up as best we could, using a bucket and so on. We informed the owner, and she told us she hadn’t been aware of it (and I believe her!). So, it’s a highly recommendable house, and you’re sure to enjoy it very much. We hope they fix the leaks, and with two or three new mattresses, it would be a 10/10!.

The house is very beautiful and comfortable, except for some aspects that I enumerate:

- The air conditioning works well, but it's difficult to interpret and quite unclear for the remote control. We spent a week and only figured it out in the last two days (we are people very accustomed to various brands). - We didn't like that the bathrooms don't have doors... - Also, the TV remote control is not easy (it has the "advantage" that we barely saw it...).

We've spent some very peaceful days. It's what you're looking for when you go to these places. The house was very good, we didn't miss anything. What we haven't solved is the collection of organic waste... The little ones enjoyed the indoor pool. Good location for wandering around the area.

Tranquility, excellent gastronomy and communication

The house is in a very quiet and very pleasant village. The restaurants serve very good food at a very affordable price. There are beautiful villages and beaches an hour away by car. The pool is small but pleasant. Communication is excellent. As a negative point: for this price you expect the furniture to be more comfortable (less IKEA), with chairs and loungers that don't dig into your body. And in the summer it gets very hot, so much so that the fans don't seem to be enough. The problem is also that, with the tramontana, you can't sleep with the windows open either. Even though I don't like it, I think air conditioning should be installed. We still really enjoyed spending two weeks here.
