Christmas is approaching and during the days leading up to the Christmas festivities, the streets of towns and cities begin to light up. For many of us it's time to think about shopping and presents. A good place to do this shopping or simply to stroll around or take part in some of the activities organised there are the Christmas markets and fairs.
In this post we talk about the most authentic Christmas markets and fairs where young and old alike can enjoy a good time and experience the magic of Christmas.
Santa Llúcia Fair in Barcelona (Barcelonès)
from November 29th to December 23rd, 2024
This fair has been held since 1786 and is probably one of the oldest Christmas markets in Catalonia. The fair is located on Avinguda de la Catedral de Barcelona, with more than 200 stalls with all kinds of crafts and Christmas products such as nativity scenes, little figures, moss, Christmas trees and Christmas decoration accessories. During the fair, there will also be activities for children, shows, concerts and exhibitions.
Figueres Christmas Market (Alt Empordà)
from November 29th to December 24th, 2024
Located on the Rambla de Figueres, the birthplace of the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, at the Figueres Christmas market you can find Christmas items, food, Christmas trees and handicrafts. The stalls are set up inside wooden huts that, together with the Dalinian Christmas decorations, make this market an idyllic place where you can experience the magic of Christmas.
Girona Christmas Market (Gironès)
from November 29th, 2024 to January 5th, 2025
In the center of the city of Girona, in Plaça Independència, surrounded by a great gastronomic offer you will find this Christmas market with objects made by local artisans, such as little figures for the nativity scene, wooden toys, textile accessories, ceramic, glass and wooden objects, jewelry, artisan food products such as sausages, cheese, sweets and nougat, and Christmas products such as Christmas trees, nativity scenes, tiós, lights and other decorations. The market opens every day from 10am to 9pm except on December the 25th and 26th and January the 1st.
Tió d'Arbúcies Fair (La Selva)
7th and 8th December 2024
Throughout the weekend, in the town of Arbúcies, at the foot of the Montseny Natural Park, a lot of activities are organized for all audiences such as exhibitions of handicrafts, entertainment shows, Christmas-themed workshops and the fair, where you can buy your tió, make one of your own, or even go and look for one in the forest.
Fir Tree Fair in Espinelves (Osona)
from November 30th to December 8th, 2024
This is not the first time we have talked about the Espinelves Fir Fair. If you don't have your Christmas tree yet, you can't miss this fair where you will have all kinds of varieties, sizes and colors of firs and where you can take the opportunity to buy all the necessary material you need to decorate it when you get home. You will also find craft products, food and shows.
Berga's Game and Christmas Fair (Berguedà)
December 6th, 2024
In the city of Berga, the capital of the Berguedà region, the Game and Christmas Fair is being held once again this year. A special occasion where young and old can participate in the games and championships that are organized there, buy board games in the giant tents where the stalls of the sector's shopkeepers and toy artisans are set up, take a stroll around the Christmas market, play with giant games, listen to storytellers and music concerts, and see one of the street shows.
Christmas Crafts Fair in Vic (Osona)
from the December 6th, 2024 to January 4th, 2025
A fair located under the vaults of the picturesque Plaça Major de Vic, capital of the Osona region, with over 30 exhibitors offering all kinds of exclusively handcrafted products such as incense, candles, clothing and accessories, artistic painting, puppets, jewellery, glass, wood, leather or ceramics, as well as Christmas and food products.
Nativity Fair in Olot (La Garrotxa)
from December 6th to 8th, 2024
The Olot Nativity Fair is a must for those who have not yet found any of the Nativity figures, the tió, or who simply want to buy a gift of craftsmanship km 0. Not to be missed is the exhibition and competition of Nativity scenes, many of them inspired by the spectacular landscapes offered by the volcanic area of La Garrotxa, such as the Fageda d'en Jordà.
Camprodon Christmas Market (Ripollès)
from December 7th to 8th, 2024
During the weekend, in addition to the fair with Christmas products and handicrafts, activities are organized for all ages: sardana dance, storytelling for children, musical performances and exhibitions. An ideal opportunity to experience Christmas in a town as picturesque as Camprodon.
Banyoles Christmas fair and craft show (Pla de l'Estany)
December 14th and 15th, 2024
A highly recommended fair for the whole family. The feature that sets this fair apart from many other Christmas fairs is that apart from the Christmas products market, there is also a display of crafts and workshops to promote them. You can see master shoemakers, paper makers, weavers, glaziers, blacksmiths, basket makers and potters. During the weekend there are also many activities for children such as Christmas craft workshops, ornaments and lanterns to wait for the Three Wise Men and even a circus workshop.
Another great thing about the days leading up to the Christmas festivities are all the traditional activities that are organized throughout the territory, such as the Quines de Nadal or the living nativity scenes.
