Between the Pyrenees and the Costa Brava, an hour's drive from Barcelona and Girona is the region of Osona, in the province of Barcelona. It is a region with ideal landscapes that are ideal for outdoor activities. Osona has history, Romanesque art, industrial and literary heritage.
Naturaki has already arrived in the province of Barcelona and more specifically in the region of Osona. In this post we propose what we consider to be the 5 essentials places to visit in the Osona region. Would you like to discover it with us?
The city of Vic is the capital of the Osona region. We recommend taking a stroll through its monumental historic center and discovering its architectural heritage. Throughout the year, the capital of Osona has an agenda of cultural activities for all ages, such as music festivals like the Mercat de Música Viva de Vic, the Vic weekly market in the renowned Plaça Major, craft fairs and also the Vic Medieval Market.
The Montseny Massif covers an area of more than 30,000 hectares and includes the Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve. It is easily accessible and is also an ideal place to go hiking and be surrounded by nature. A visit to the Espai Montseny is a must, where you can learn about the history, characteristics and legends of the Park and participate in some of the activities organized.
3. Rupit, a charming village

Rupit is one of the most beautiful and picturesque towns in Osona. First of all, because of its location, next to La Garrotxa and La Selva, surrounded by waterfalls, green landscapes of lush forests and large rocky walls. The village of Rupit is characterized by its cobbled streets, rustic houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, the wooden hanging bridge and its baroque-style church.
4. The Sau Swamp

The Sau reservoir is only 16 kilometers from Rupit. This reservoir was inaugurated in 1962 to supply water to the city of Barcelona and its metropolitan area. In times of drought, when the reservoir's water level drops, many visitors come to the reservoir to see the old church of Sant Romà de Sau, since when the reservoir is full, it is completely submerged under water. Water sports and fishing are also allowed.
5. Cold meats and cheeses of Osona

There is no better way to get to know a territory than through its gastronomy. Stop by a local butcher shop to buy artisan products to make a nice dinner. Artisan sausages are the most renowned products of the Osona region: Vic sausage, butifarra, fuet, obispo, somalla and bayona are the most prominent. The area's artisanal cheeses are also gaining more and more international recognition. Some of these local producers in the area, under the brand name "Fet a Osona" (Made in Osona), organize guided tours and tastings in their facilities where you can also buy their products.
Although Osona invites you to go outdoors and discover all its corners, for rainy days, we recommend you take a look at our post where we talk about the funniest board games to enjoy good company in our houses
