In this post we recommend 5 places to visit during your stay in Berguedà to get to know the territory better and discover some of the most beautiful corners of this region.

In Berguedà we highlight its industrial and architectural heritage and its wealth of natural areas where you can go hiking, outdoor activities or simply enjoy its spectacular scenery.

1. La Patum de Berga (Berga)

The Patum is a traditional festival held in the town of Berga, the capital of Berguedà, during the Corpus Christi festival. A festival of mediaeval origin with fire and music as the main protagonists. It has been declared “Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO.

2. The Llobregat Springs (Castellar de n'Hug)

Starting from Castellar de n'Hug, there is a hiking route of no more than 1 kilometre and suitable for all ages that will take you from the village to the Llobregat springs, where you can see the source of the Llobregat river. It's about a 20 minute walk (one way) following a cobbled path with stairs and very well signposted.

3. Pedraforca, the magic mountain (Saldes)

Within the Natural Park of Cadí-Moixeró, one of the largest in Catalonia, is the Pedraforca mountain (2506 metres high). An emblematic mountain due to its "U" shape and known as magical for all the popular legends that speak of it. Pedraforca is located between the municipalities of Saldes and Gósol. In Saldes, you can visit and participate in some of the activities organised by the Pedraforca Astronomical Center and the Pedraforca Massif and Mining Interpretation Centre. A different and very fun way to get to know the area.

4. The textile colonies of Llobregat (Puig-Reig)

During the industrial revolution, a large number of textile colonies were built along the course of the Llobregat River. One of the best preserved is the Colonia Vidal de Puig-Reig. Currently converted into a museum where they explain what life and work were like in a textile colony at the beginning of the 20th century. The colony preserves the school, the factory and the worker's houses. We recommend that you take part in the dramatised visits organised by  the Museu de la Colònia Vidal.

5. The Artigas Gardens (La Pobla de Lillet)

At the beginning of the 20th century, Eusebi Güell (owner of the well-known Parc Güell in Barcelona) founded the first Portland cement factory in Catalonia, known as Asland. Eusebi Güell commissioned the architect Antoni Gaudí to design the Xalet del Catllaràs in Castellar de n'Hug as housing for mine workers and engineers. Today it houses the Museum of Cement.

During his stay in the Vall de Lillet, Gaudí stayed at Mr. and Mrs. Artigas, owners of one of the most prosperous textile factories of the time. In gratitude for the hospitality received, Gaudí gave them the design of a garden on a plot of land that the Artigas family had right in front of their house and the textile factory. This was the origin of Artigas Gardens.

Nowadays, the Cement Museum (Castellar de n'Hug) and the Artigas Gardens (La Pobla de Lillet) are connected by the Cement Train, a 20 minute ride through the Lillet Valley. A highly recommended activity for children.
