The Camins de Ronda are a series of coastal paths stretching from Blanes to Portbou (the Costa Brava). They were formerly used by the customs officers and later by the Civil Guard to control smuggling. Today the Camins de Ronda are known for their fabulous views of the Girona coastline, where the intense blue of the sea combines with the green of the pine trees that provide shade for much of the path.

We suggest 7 Camins de Ronda of low / moderate intensity so that you can discover some of the most spectacular beaches and coves on the Costa Brava.

1. Coastal Path: S'Agaró - Platja d'Aro

6.5 km - 1 hour approx.

Photo: Coastal path between S Agaró and Platja d AroPhoto: Coastal path between S'Agaró and Platja d'Aro

You'll start at Sant Pol Beach, known for its colourful changing huts, which are more photogenic than many of our Instagram photos. Parking can be a mission worthy of Tom Cruise if you arrive a little late in summer, so try to leave your car in the Sant Pol car park or in the surrounding streets.

The route is very wide and comfortable, ideal for children, friends or simply to lose yourself in good conversation and good views. A few minutes after setting off, you will find Cala Pedrosa, a quiet spot to stretch your legs and, if you feel like it, take a refreshing dip. Halfway along the route, you will see the viewpoint where the gazebo is located, one of the best spots for taking photos with the Mediterranean in the background.

Finally, you will reach Sa Conca Beach, a large and beautiful beach where you can relax, swim or stop for lunch. During the summer months, we recommend the Chiringuito Sa Conca, ideal for enjoying some delicious tapas. The route is linear, so to return to the starting point you can either repeat the walk (which is just as beautiful in the evening as it is in the morning) or take the Sarfa bus from Platja d'Aro to S'Agaró to return to Sant Pol Beach. At Sant Pol Beach you will find some of the best restaurants with sea views on the Costa Brava, where you can recharge your batteries at the end of the route.

Recommendations for this route:

  • Start: Sant Pol Beach (S'Agaró).
  • Parking: Blue zone near Sant Pol Beach or surrounding streets.
  • Must-see: Colorful changing huts, Cala Pedrosa, Glorieta viewpoint, and Sa Conca Beach.
  • Where to eat? Sa Conca beach bar (summer) or Restaurants at Sant Pol Beach (all year round).
  • End: Sa Conca Beach (Platja d'Aro).

2. Coast path: Platja d'Aro - Sant Antoni de Calonge - Palamós

8.5 km. - 4 hours approx.

Photo: Torre Valentina from the coastal pathPhoto: Torre Valentina from the coastal path

This path starts at the Platja Gran de Platja d'Aro, where you'll find an atmosphere that mixes early walkers, runners with motivational playlists, and the rare tourist who hasn't yet had breakfast. The first stretch to Sant Antoni de Calonge includes a brief bit on the road (yes, you'll be on the sidewalk), but don't worry: it's short and the reward comes quickly.

And what a reward! Along the way, some of the most beautiful coves of the Baix Empordà will parade by: Cala Rovira, ideal for a first stop; Sa Cova, small and quiet; Cala Belladona, probably one of the most Instagram-friendly; Cala Cap Roig and Roques Planes, where the rocks seem designed by an Empordà artist and its turquoise blue backdrop over the white rocks make it one of the ideal coves for snorkeling. The route features gentle ups and downs, but the journey is very pleasant with constant views of the Mediterranean.

Before entering Sant Antoni de Calonge, the Torre Valentina, a sixteenth-century defense tower, will welcome you. From here, the path is flat and comfortable, following all along the Platja Gran de Sant Antoni, perfect to slow down and start seriously thinking about lunch.

If you decide to stop in Sant Antoni, we recommend a rice dish or fresh fish at Refugi de Pescadors. It never disappoints! If you still have energy to walk a bit further, continue to Palamós and book a table at Can Blau. Their rice dishes are spectacular!

Recommendations for this route:

  • Start: Platja Gran of Platja d'Aro.
  • Parking: Blue zones and parking lots of Platja d'Aro, especially in the promenade area.
  • Must-see: Cala Rovira, Sa Cova, Cala Belladona, Cala Cap Roig, Roques Planes and Torre Valentina.
  • Where to eat? Refugi de Pescadors (Sant Antoni de Calonge) or Can Blau (Palamós)
  • End: Palamós (Platja Gran or Port).

3. Coastal path: Palamós - Calella de Palafrugell

10.6 km - 6 hours approx.

Photo: <a class=Calella de Palafrugell from the coastal path" itemprop="image" src="https://www.naturaki.com/fotografies/s/21393camins-de-ronda-de-la-costa-brava-03-palamos-a-calella-de-palafrugell-ok-online.jpg" loading="lazy" decoding="async" >Photo: Calella de Palafrugell from the coastal path

You will start the path in Palamós, where the scent of the sea and the atmosphere of the port will already put you in holiday mode even if it's Tuesday. We follow the coastal path north to discover along the way the best beaches and coves of Palamós. Shortly after starting the route, we reach Cala de Castell, one of the last virgin beaches on the Costa Brava. It's quite clear here that this stage is not about running: it's about enjoying.

The path continues through Cala s'Alguer, known for its colourful fishermen's huts that look like they're straight out of a postcard, and continues to Cala Estreta, one of the wildest and most beautiful on the route. If you have a snack, this is the ideal place to stop. Further on you'll find Cala del Crit, small, intense and one of those that make you say "wow" involuntarily.

As you move on, the landscape changes and one of the most elegant sections of the route opens up: the Jardins de Cap Roig, where nature and architecture go hand in hand. In the summer, this space transforms into the stage for the Cap Roig Festival, one of the best summer festivals on the Costa Brava, so it wouldn't be strange to walk hearing sound checks. The final push takes you to the Far de Sant Sebastià, where the spectacular views will make you forget about the kilometres you've accumulated. And finally, as a reward, Calella de Palafrugell, one of the most beautiful (and photogenic) towns on the Costa Brava, appears, with its white houses, boats on the sand and that feeling of eternal postcard.

Here, it's time to celebrate with a rice dish in front of the sea at Tragamar or with some good tapas at La Blava. A long route, demanding in some sections, but absolutely spectacular. Ideal to do without hurry and with the camera (and the appetite) always ready.

Recommendations for this route:

  • Start: Palamós (Port area or Platja Gran).
  • Parking: Public parking in Palamós (Port Marina or Platja Gran area).
  • Must-sees: Cala de Castell, Cala s'Alguer, Cala Estreta, Cala del Crit, Cap Roig Gardens and Sant Sebastià Lighthouse.
  • Where to eat? Tragamar, La Blava.
  • End: Calella de Palafrugell.

4. Coastal path: Pals - Begur

5.3 km - 50 minutes approx.

5.3 km - 50 minutes approx.

The path starts at Platja de Pals, a wide and wild beach, ideal for warming up. This is one of the most accessible sections of the coastal path, but don't be fooled: you will find some stairs that work your legs and a small section of asphalt that will remind you that, occasionally, civilization also exists.

The first stop is Cala Moreta, small and quiet, perfect for a first break and enjoying the silence before more walkers appear. After a while, you will arrive at Platja de Sa Riera, one of the most popular in Begur. After Sa Riera, you will need to walk a few meters on asphalt, but it is not dramatic: it's a short section that takes you to Aiguafreda, a tucked away and elegant cove, ideal for a quick swim or simply to contemplate the sea in mental pause mode.

The last section leads you to Sa Tuna, probably one of the most beautiful and photogenic coves of the Costa Brava. Fishermen's houses, crystal clear waters and an astounding calm. Here, the route ends as it should: sitting on the terrace of one of the best restaurants facing the sea. You can opt for seafood cuisine at the Hostal Sa Tuna or a good grilled fish at Es Furió. A short route, very pleasant and perfect if you want to combine walking, swims and a good meal without your legs begging for mercy. Ideal to do with the family.

Recommendations for this route:

  • Start: Pals Beach.
  • Parking: Large and free parking at Pals Beach.
  • Must see: Moreta Cove, Sa Riera Beach, Aiguafreda Cove and Sa Tuna.
  • Where to eat? Sa Tuna Hostel, Es Furió.
  • End: Sa Tuna (Begur).

5. Coastal path: Roses – Cala Montjoi

9.5 km - 4 hours approx.

9.5 km - 4 hours approx.

You will start your route in Roses, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the promenade to quickly immerse yourself in one of the wildest landscapes of the Costa Brava: the Cap de Creus Natural Park. Here, the coastal path becomes more rugged, with open views, wind-sculpted rocks, and that certain sensation, or certainty, that Empordà, indeed, is in a league of its own.

Your first stop is Almadrava Beach, a wide and tranquil cove, ideal for a swim or a coffee with a view before tackling the most natural part of the route. From here, the path meanders between cliffs, low vegetation and secluded coves where only the wind and the waves can be heard. It's a route to walk gently and take many photos.

One of the most special points on the journey is the Punta Falconera, with its old military batteries and spectacular views over the Gulf of Roses. From here, you can sense the end of the trail, but don't rush: this is one of the purest and least urbanized sections of the entire coastline.

Arriving at Cala Montjoi is an experience in itself. Not just because of the beauty of the cove, but because this was the location of the legendary El Bulli, the restaurant that changed the history of gastronomy in our country. Today, the space is the elBullifoundation, a center dedicated to research and gastronomic innovation, almost a must-visit for food creativity lovers.

For lunch, you need to plan a bit as there's no regular offering at Cala Montjoi, so the best option is to return to Roses and go to Els Brancs (during the summer months) or to Falconera to enjoy a nice rice dish. A spectacular and wild route, ideal for those seeking a good dose of pure nature.

[see route map]

Recommendations for this route:

  • Start: Roses (Light house area or Almadrava Beach).
  • Parking: Parking at Roses Lighthouse or at the Almadrava.
  • Must-sees: Almadrava Beach, Falconera Point, wild coves of Cap de Creus and Montjoi Cove.
  • Where to eat? Els Brancs or Falconera Restaurant.
  • End: Montjoi Cove.

6. Coastal path: Cadaqués – Portlligat – Cap de Creus

10 km - 5 hours approx.

10 km - 5 hours approx.

This section starts in the heart of Cadaqués, one of the most iconic towns on the Costa Brava, with white houses by the sea and boats on the sand, closely linked to the figure of Salvador Dalí. After a few kilometers, you will reach Portlligat. There you will find the Casa-Museu Salvador Dalí. It is an almost mandatory visit if you want to understand why this extreme landscape captivated the surrealist genius. From there, the wildest and most unspoiled part of the route begins.

The path fully immerses you in the Cap de Creus Natural Park, with hidden coves, impossible rocks and a landscape that seems from another planet. It is a demanding stretch at some points, with climbs, descents and rocky sections, but absolutely spectacular. There is no rush here: walk, look, breathe and let yourself go.

The final reward is immense: the Cap de Creus Lighthouse, one of the most emblematic lighthouses on the Costa Brava, the easternmost point of Catalonia. The views are the kind that are etched in memory, especially if you arrive in good light. Sit at the Cap de Creus Restaurant, order a nice cool drink and some good tapas and celebrate having completed one of the most amazing and powerful routes on the entire Costa Brava.

[view route map]

Recommendations for this route:

  • Start: Cadaqués (center of the town or seaside promenade).
  • Parking: Municipal car park at the entrance of Cadaqués or designated areas outside of the town center (in summer, patience is a must).
  • Must-see: Cadaqués, Portlligat, Salvador Dalí House-Museum, wild coves of Cap de Creus and Cap de Creus Lighthouse.
  • Where to eat? In Cadaqués (before leaving): Compartir or Casa Anita. In Cap de Creus: Restaurant del Cap de Creus.
  • End: Cap de Creus Lighthouse.

7. Coastal path: El Port de la Selva - Llançà

8.8 km - 2 hours approx.

8.8 km - 2 hours approx.
The path begins at El Port de la Selva, a seafaring town with a spectacular panorama. Leaving behind the urban center, the coastal path climbs towards Far de s'Arenella, perfect for making the first stop and taking out your phone: the views are the kind that already put you in Instagram mode.

From here, the path follows the coast with the sea always close by and a comfortable terrain that allows you to walk without effort. When you reach Cap de Bol, the views burst open all at once and you will feel as if you are walking along a practically unspoiled coastline, with rocks, low vegetation and small coves that oblige you to stop, stretch your legs and take cinema-worthy photos. The route continues through the Illes Falcó, small islets that give character to the landscape and make each step more spectacular. This is an ideal stretch to enjoy the sound of the sea and the contrast between rock and water, unhurriedly but with wide open senses.

Arrival at Llançà is marked by the Illot del Castellar, and from here the path becomes more urban towards the port or the town's beaches, where it's time for the final reward: to relax and regain strength. And to do it properly, nothing better than a table with a view: enjoy some fresh fish at Miramar or a seafood rice at Can Narra. A short, varied and very enjoyable route: ideal for walking, swimming and ending with a good, hassle-free meal.

[view route map]

Recommendations for this route:

  • Start: El Port de la Selva (promenade or port area).
  • Parking: Municipal car park at the entrance of El Port de la Selva or areas around the port.
  • Must-sees: S'Arenella lighthouse, Cap de Bol, Falcó Islands, and Castellar Islet.
  • Where to eat? Miramar or Can Narra.
  • End: Llançà (Port area or Port Beach).

Attention, walker! Remember that most of these routes are not circular, so to return to the start point you have two options: redo the path in reverse (yes, double the kilometers!) or plan your return transportation with a taxi or public transportation.

Tie your shoes well, load up your backpack and get ready to enjoy. Don't forget to bring sun screen, a cap, sunglasses, bathing suit, towel, water and a snack.

If you want more information about the coastal paths, you can ask for information at the tourist office of each town.
