A town of stately buildings and imposing farmhouses. This is Viladasens, a town located in the north of Gironès that preserves its rural character and a character that recalls the splendor of past eras.
The history of Viladasens goes back to ancient times, with evidence of human settlements dating back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by the archaeological remains found in the area. During the medieval period, Viladasens was a manor dependent on Espinelves Castle. In those days, the town was made up of small agricultural holdings and some scattered houses around a parish church. In the 14th century, Viladasens experienced a period of growth and economic development, thanks to the expansion of agriculture and the production of wine, oil and cereals. During this time, several farmhouses and stately homes were built that are still preserved today.
Are you spending a few days in Viladasens? Note the following essentials: The church of Sant Vicenç , a temple mainly in the Baroque style that still preserves some Romanesque parts. In the neighborhood of Fellines, in the westernmost part of the municipality, there is the church of Sant Martí de Fellines, a 12th century temple. We should also mention the church of Sant Martí de la Mora , a building with a single nave and a semicircular apse built in the 12th century. In addition, throughout the town we find farmhouses that stand out both for their antiquity and for their architectural elements: Ca l'Adroer, Can Moret, Can Roca or Can Faixat , among others.
The location of Viladasens makes this municipality an ideal place to visit some of the most interesting points of Alt Empordà, such as the impressive archaeological complex of the ruins of Empúries , the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park or the city de Figueres, whose main attraction is the Dalí Museum .
