On the banks of the Daró river and very close to La Bisbal d'Empordà is Ullastret, a town known everywhere for its archaeological sites, and its walled enclosure, ideal for enjoying its holiday cottages and the tranquility of the area
Thanks to the Iberian sites on Puig Sant Andreu and those on the island of Reixac , we know that there was already a human presence in the territory in the sixth century. The Roman presence in the area has also been certified, but it will not be until well into the 9th century that we find the first documents that mention Velloses, in 834.
If you want to enjoy your stay in Ullastret, you must not miss its essentials: To begin, you must visit the largest Iberian town in all of Catalonia , and its monographic museum, a couple of kilometers from the town. Once through the streets of Ullastret, you must let yourself be carried away by its medieval alleys and its walls, which still retain a dozen towers. If you keep walking you will reach the Romanesque church of Sant Pere , and if you continue a little further, already outside the walled area, you will find the medieval Gothic market,
If you want to know the surroundings of Ullastret, be sure to visit Monells, Madremanya , the neighborhood of Millars, or La Bisbal de l'Empordà . If you prefer to go hiking or cycling, the massif of Montgrí lacks people. And if what you want is to do a good dive, the Medes Islands are the best choice and you have them very close.
