If you like hiking, mountain bike routes and want to know the architectural heritage of Catalonia, there is no shortage of people heading to Lladó! It is a town located at the gates of the Salines-Bassegoda natural area, fifteen minutes from Figueres, the capital of Alt Empordà.
Lladó has always been an important commercial enclave. So, in different places of the town, Roman and some Visigoth vestiges have been found. The town, however, has been documented since the year 977, when Count-Bishop Miró II de Besalú donated some land from the term of Lucduno to the monastery of Sant Pere de Besalú.
If you spend a few days in Lladó, you cannot miss the canonry and the monastic enclosure of Santa Maria de Lledó , which began to be built in the 12th century. The church of Sant Feliu de Lladó and the small hermitage of the apostles, located on a small hill in the middle of the forest, are also worth a visit. It is also worth approaching the viewpoint of the hermitage of Sant Jaume and Sant Felip, from where you will have fantastic views of the Empordà plain. It is also highly recommended to stroll through the old town of Lladó, a monumental complex included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.
The town of Lladó, in Alt Empordà, is one of the gateways to the Salines-Bassegoda massif and very good routes leave from there, all marked according to their difficulty, for walking or mountain biking.
