The history of Begur and its surroundings

The origins of the town of Begur are to be found at the top of the castle, where some archaeological sites have appeared. Although the most emblematic are from the Middle Ages. The sea has always been a source of economic resources for Begur, through fishing and the sale of coral. It was precisely the crisis of the coral and agriculture that caused, already in the 19th century, a significant exodus of people from Begur to Cuba, the so-called Indians. Begur is full of must-sees. At the entrance, the medieval castle, which dates from the 11th century and is surrounded by narrow streets and four defense towers, the town towers, from the 16th and 17th centuries, declared a Historical and Artistic Monument.
