A town with a lot of history. This is Bàscara, a municipality in the Alt Empordà, nestled right on the border with the Baix Empordà, which includes the towns of Calabuig, les Roques and Orriols. The history of Bàscara and its surroundings
At least since the beginning of the 9th century, the town of Bàscara was the possession of the bishops of Girona. The first document in which it is mentioned is from the year 817, following a trial in which the boundaries of the Baschara villa were set. Its situation as a fortified town on the main road from Girona to France accentuated its strategic importance. In fact, in 1675, Bàscara was taken by the French, who established a base camp there for the siege of Girona. During the sieges of 1808 and 1809, French troops reoccupied the town until, at the end of the war, General Suchet blew up the fortifications.

Bàscara, as we have explained, still preserves a walled part and an important old town. Another must-see are the remains of the priory of Sant Nicolau de Calabuig and the church of Sant Feliu de Calabuig. Without forgetting the castle-palace of Orriols, a building from the 16th-17th centuries with a Renaissance facade that is worth seeing.
Walk around Bàscara
If you like hiking and are lovers of active tourism, you're in luck. You can go on excursions in the vicinity of the Fluvià river and discover the natural springs and caves in the area. In addition, one of the two sections of the Way of St. James on its way through Catalonia, passes through Bàscara. The route has two variants that converge in Medinyà: you can go through Orriols, Viladasens and Cervià de Ter or through Vilademuls and Terradelles. Both options allow you to get to know small agricultural and livestock villages.

Relaxing week in the midst of so much heat
The house is cool, the pool, although small, is wonderful; we spent the hottest week (42 degrees) and we could only go out for a swim in the late afternoon, but the swim from 7 to 10 in the evening was brutal. Well equipped house, very comfortable mattresses, new appliances. We missed some dish soap and dishwashing soap (there were plenty of tablets for the dishwasher but not for scrubbing by hand. Coffee spoons would also be nice - the cups are tiny and the dessert spoons are huge. We call this to constructive criticism, let it be noted that we have been VERY WELL! And the town is charming and extraordinarily quiet.

Dream vacation with the family in Mas Salleras, August 2023
Mas Salleras has met all the requirements for a perfect family vacation accompanied by our furry friend. The house is spectacular, both inside and outside... the living-dining room, the bedrooms, the porches, the pool, the barbecue area and the barbecue itself, the garden and the surroundings are perfect. The details that have been taken in the restoration of the Mas and the conservation of some elements are worthy of admiration. It is also noticeable that they take care of the maintenance of the garden, which makes your stay a very pleasant one. It is a secluded and very intimate farmhouse but close to all services, which allows you to enjoy the whole day in that wonderful house. We had a problem with the coffee maker and María responded to us within 5 minutes… and in less than an hour they brought us a replacement. We will repeat. Thank you Maria and thank you Naturaki.

Very comfortable house with well-kept pool.
Totally recommended to spend a few days with the family, in the middle of nature. We want to thank Jaume for the complete attention he had at all times to make our stay as pleasant as possible.

Ideal for spending a few days with the family
Hello! We have been enjoying various Naturaki houses with the family for several years and this one, without a doubt, is one of the best we have been to. For the group we are, 7 people, this house is ideal (rooms with bathroom for all). We were able to enjoy the pool, the garden and the barbecue a lot. Although it can accommodate 5 more people, I find the second floor room impractical (spiral staircase).

One of the best houses we've ever visited!!
Still 2 small comments: too few sun loungers if you are 11. Too bad there is no direct passage from the square to the pool. But the house is beautiful and meets just about everything with a downright beautiful kitchen.
