In Girona and Costa Brava, you'll find some truly dreamy towns. They're like villages and municipalities that could be the perfect setting for a Hollywood movie. If you want to go on a romantic getaway and take some spectacular photos, don't hesitate any longer. Forget about Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast, because here you have the most romantic towns in Girona and the Costa Brava.

Pals (Baix Empordà)

Josep Pla was very clear about it: "Pals doesn't deserve just one visit, but a hundred visits, because its location offers the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful and unforgettable landscapes in the country." That's why Pals is one of the first towns that, we locals, show when we want to show off in front of our friends. It has cobbled streets, golden houses with flowers, and Romanesque portals that will surely remind you of the villages in the south of France. Wander through the medieval village and head to the Josep Pla viewpoint to contemplate the beauty of the Empordà plain and the Medes Islands in the background. It is truly spectacular!

Cadaqués (Alt Empordà)

It's impossible to visit the Empordà without going to Cadaqués, the jewel of the Costa Brava. It's a whitewashed fishing village that appears in a bunch of postcards, and rightly so. We don't want to lie: in summer, it's packed, but even so, it still maintains its authenticity and that typically Mediterranean atmosphere. Climb up to the church of Santa Maria, at the top of the old town, and you'll see some really cool views of the red roofs and the sea in the background. Take a stroll through its cobbled streets and stop to take photos on Call Street or head to Portitxó Square, where you'll find the modernist Casa Blaua or Serinyana, built in the early 20th century. You'll understand why Salvador Dalí said that Cadaqués was the most beautiful village in the world.

Tossa de Mar (La Selva)

Ava Gardner filmed a movie here and fell madly in love with the place. Do you need more reasons to visit Tossa de Mar? The painter Marc Chagall called it the Blue Paradise and, for years, it has been the meeting place for artists from all over the world. Tossa de Mar has a lot to see, but let's try to summarize it: If you want to see the Tossa Castle (probably one of the best in Catalonia) in the best way, go to the Cards viewpoint. The views are amazing! Take a walk through the alleys of the Vila Vella or go snorkeling at Banyera de ses Dones, a small and quiet cove perfect for couples. You'll love it!

Peratallada (Baix Empordà)

Peratallada, one of the coolest medieval towns in Girona, is like our Carcassonne. It's one of the most important medieval architectural complexes in Catalonia and one of the few towns that still preserves its feudal appearance, with walls, towers, and a castle. There's nothing in Peratallada that looks out of place, everything is super pretty. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of summer, go in autumn, when the leaves of the vines on the facades turn orange and red. Peratallada acquires, you'll see, an even more special charm.

Besalú (La Garrotxa)

Not to be missed. Besalú is one of the best-preserved medieval ensembles in Catalonia and one of the coolest towns in La Garrotxa. It's a town located at 150 meters altitude that was an important independent county, it even had its own currency! It's impossible to walk through its cobbled streets, cross its famous bridge, or have a coffee on one of its terraces and not be captivated by its charm. Besalú, the county town you'll fall in love with! Maybe that's why it has inspired novels like The Bridge of the Jews by Martí Gironell.

Camprodon (Ripollès)

At the end of the 19th century, the Catalan bourgeoisie began to spend their summers here. Back then Camprodon was known as the little Catalan Switzerland and experienced strong growth with the construction of modernist buildings that contrast with the millennial aesthetics of the town. Wander through its streets, admire the  12th century New Bridge, considered the entrance gate to the road that led to the Cerdanya and, above all, enjoy its mountains. Camprodon is the ideal town for nature and ski lovers. One of the most beautiful towns in the Catalan Pyrenees.

Beget (Ripollès)

Beget looks like a nativity scene. Stone houses staggered over the river, wooden balconies, cobbled streets, and a really cool rural look. It's one of the most interesting medieval towns in Catalonia and, curiously, one of the least known. Especially when compared to towns like Pals or Besalú. We like it because it has a totally natural beauty, nothing artificial, and it's located in a privileged place, at 540 meters altitude.Game of Thrones could have, definitely, been filmed there!

Begur (Baix Empordà)

The 8 most romantic towns in Girona and the Costa BravaPhoto: Begur

Begur is the heart of Costa Brava's summer, a town that looks like it's taken from an Estrella Damm ad. It has a really cool Indianos vibe and a lot of history, with a castle at the top of the town and beaches like Sa Tuna or Illa Roja, one of the best beaches of the Costa Brava, which are known practically all over the world. It is well worth a visit in September, when the Indianos Fair is held and the town turns white. Begur is one of the most privileged towns in l'Empordà and deserves a good visit.
