The history of Vilamacolum and its surroundings
Vilamacolum is mentioned for the first time at the end of the 10th century, but it is not until 1094 that the town's church, that of Santa Maria, is mentioned, when the town was given to the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. Vilamacolum began to grow after the War of Succession, when the cultivation of vines and corn began to increase and become popular.

The church of Santa Maria is, without any doubt, the most interesting monument in the small town of Vilamacolum. A small and at the same time unique fortified Romanesque building, dating from the 11th and 13th centuries. In fact, the eastern end of the nave and the semicircular apse date from the 11th century. And much of the lateral walls of the nave and the front are from the advanced Romanesque period, probably from the 12th and 13th centuries. Near the church we find the stone bridge, another point of historical interest that is worth seeing, as it is a rather curious construction.
Do the Les Closes literary route
Les Closes is a natural site that borders the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park and is, at the same time, a novel by Maria Àngels Anglada, a writer and poet who lived in Vilamacolum. For this reason, a very good way to get to know the town is to take the guided tour of Les Closes , which goes through various parts of the town through fragments of the work. It is a 4 kilometer route that passes through emblematic places in the novel such as Can Moragues, the church or Les Closes, among others.

Exceptional house for family reunion
Very well equipped house, kitchen with everything necessary for a group of 15 people. Spacious rooms, different spaces for group eating, a shame about the stifling heat of the week and the mosquitoes did not allow us to use the gazebo next to the barbecue. super-kept garden and pool. Jaume (Gardener) and the super friendly pool maintainer gave us a lot of advice for activities in the area, a big hug for them. Justina is very attentive with cleaning and small incidents.

VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE, BUT WITH SMALL IMPROVEMENTS IT COULD BE EXCEPTIONAL!
Maybe we are very demanding, but after being in many houses of this type, for us it is the best for the spaces it has, but it does not reach excellence for small details, which in our view are easy to solve, such as: having mosquito nets in all rooms, good shade in the pool area, curtains or blinds to prevent the sun from entering the house and a clothesline with conditions for hanging the clothes from the pool or washing machine.

Regarding the shade of the pool, comment that we have put sun umbrellas at the request of a customer, and we ask that when it is windy, they close to avoid problems. As for the clothesline, there were 2 of them and they broke. That's why we put a fixed one. La Blauet en Ventalló: a great choice for a holiday in the Alt Empordà region
A magnificent house with all the necessary comforts to spend holidays with family and friends (we were 6 adults and 6 children) in a rural environment but well connected, between 15min and 45min from all the beaches and towns that are worth a visit. The hosts are always attentive and ready for any question. 100% recommended!
