This Alt Empordà municipality, located just over 20 kilometers from Figueres, stands out, above all, for its medieval walled enclosure - in a very good state of conservation - as well as for the houses and streets of the old town. It is not, however, the only relevant historical fact of Sant Llorenç de la Muga and is that in the 18th century, under the reign of Charles III, several foundries were created such as the Royal Foundry of Sant Sebastià de la Muga, dedicated to the production of ammunition and destroyed in the Battle of Sant Llorenç de la Muga, during the Roussillon War. Currently, the ruins of this foundry are covered by the Darnius - Boadella swamp.
