If you like towns with a lot of history and fancy a quiet rural getaway, Navata is full of people! A village in the Alt Empordà, on the Empordà plain, near the Garrotxa and the Pla de l'Estany where you can stroll through the old houses, walk through its alleys or get lost in the soft terrain bordering the Manol and Fluvià rivers.
Although in 1019, the parish of Sant Pere de Navata was handed over to the canonry of the See of Girona, it seems that the definitive toponym does not appear in documents until 1090. However, the origin of we find the town in 1283, when a hospital order was founded to serve the towns, around which a conglomerate of houses and small industries was woven.
The historic core of the town of Navata preserves, even now, many interesting historical and heritage elements, such as the remains of the old fortification. For this reason, we recommend that you take the route through the medieval Navata , proposed by the City Council itself, and retrace the route of the old wall, walk through the streets of the old town and discover, for example, houses from the 15th and 16th centuries and XVII and XVIII. All, of course, have been restored. But they still preserve historical elements, such as dates and inscriptions. You can also visit theparish of Sant Pere de Navata, an impressive building from the 17th century where you will find wall paintings in an excellent state of conservation, or the remains of the castle walls, documented since 1051.
At first, you can take advantage of your stay in a holiday cottage in Navata to walk, with the whole family, through the land that borders the Manol and Fluvià rivers. Now, if you want to walk a little more, you can opt for the route that goes to Sant Pere, the castle, Alguema and Pi Centenari. An itinerary where you will discover the most interesting elements around Navata. Of course, it is an unmarked route. There are also several signposted mountain bike trails that belong to the Salines-Bassegoda BTT Centre.
