The history of Borrassà and its surroundings

Although Neolithic archaeological remains and four Roman and late Roman silos have been found, it is not until 817 that the first written sources refer to Borrassà, under the name of Borraciano. Borrassà was part of the county of Besalú, until in 1298 it was added to the battalion of Figueres. Most of the inhabitants of Borrassà, at least until the middle of the last century, have dedicated themselves to agriculture and livestock.

Visit its architectural heritage

If you're staying in a rural house in Borrassà, you can't miss the parish church of Sant Andreu de Borrassà , a large 18th-century building that takes advantage of the main walls and defensive elements of the village's old castle. You also cannot miss visiting the chapel of Mare de Déu de Creixell, built during the 18th century and Mas Brascó, a large 16th century manor house. And a curious space: Plaça de la Geometria where, from the geometric figures represented on the pavements, you can understand geometry in a simple and playful way.

Borrassà allows you, on the one hand, to enjoy a peaceful stay and the typical agricultural landscape of the Empordà plain and, on the other, to get to know and visit the city of Figueres, capital of Alt Empordà, located a few kilometers away. If you go to Figueres, you cannot miss the Dalí Theatre-Museum, Sant Ferran Castle or the Toy Museum, among others.
