Do you like history, cultural tourism and want to swim in pools? Vilafant, a town located in the middle of Alt Empordà, right next to Figueres, is waiting for you. You will be able to enjoy the architectural ensemble of Palol Sabaldòria, an incomparable rural environment and the pool of Figuerencs, where Salvador Dalí used to go.

Vilafant is mentioned for the first time in the 11th century. However, the economy of Vilafant, based on agriculture and, to a lesser extent, livestock, underwent a major change with the development of the tiling industry. In fact, in 1620 there were fifteen ovens in operation and in the middle of the 18th century there were eleven small factories. It was not, however, until the year 1880 that Rafel Soler's large mill was assembled, which supplied tiles to the works of the Barcelona Universal Exhibition of 1888. The tile industry gave rise to other activities economics linked to construction, such as plasterers or mosaic manufacturers. A past that has left its mark on the collective imagination of the town.

One of the must-sees in Vilafant is, without a doubt, the historic architectural complex of Palol Sabaldòria, made up of a pre-Romanesque church, a medieval castle, a farmhouse and Iberian and Roman remains. If you want to continue with the cultural visit, the parish church of Sant Cebrià de Vilafant, from the 13th-14th centuries, with a neoclassical portal or the four towers of popular modernist style from the beginning of the 20th century: the Manol tower is also worth visiting , the tower of Dolfo Soler, the Ginjaume tower and the Soler tower of the mosaics.

If you prefer to walk a bit, enjoy the surroundings and bathe in some magnificent pools, you can stroll along the banks of the Manol river which, as it passes through Vilafant, forms deep pools, such as Baqué's pool, the pool Blava or the popular pool dels Figuerencs , where the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí used to go. You can't miss the Can Massanet fountain either, where you'll find a hundred-year-old oak declared a monumental tree.
