Sorry, but we don't have any accommodation in Maresme
The coastal strip that is the Maresme has a lot to offer. It is an ideal place to spend a few days in rural accommodation! It borders the Selva region to the north, with the Tordera river being a natural divide, and the Barcelonès to the south. The interior barriers are marked by Vallès Oriental. And, of course, the Mediterranean Sea in the coastal area. It is also a very well-connected region. It is crossed by major national roads and motorways, as well as having good train connections with the main Catalan cities.
The gastronomy of the area will delight lovers of fresh garden food and seafood. In addition to the good cuisine of the Maresme, you can also enjoy a vibrant culture and intense nature. Discover the forests and mountains of the area inland, do water sports on its coast or relax on the beach. There are a thousand options to enjoy your vacation in holiday cottages in the Maresme!
Hidden corners, fairytale landscapes, cities full of life and culture… All this and more is the Maresme! Betting on a dream holiday and staying a few days in the holiday cottages you will find in the region is a way to take care of yourself and continue to discover an impressive territory. For this reason, we propose interesting activities for all tastes that you can do in the Maresme region. Discover it and enjoy the holiday cottages!
Let's start with one of the most famous things that the Maresme has: its sea! Along its 52 km of coastline you will find spectacular beaches, idyllic places. If you want to enjoy the coast at any time of the year, you can do walking trails. One that I really like is the one that connects Calella and Sant Pol de Mar.
The patrol roads were paths, usually with the sea in the background, which served to connect populations, control them and fight against smuggling. These routes are now used for tourism. The one we propose runs between the two municipalities. You will see the coast of Sant Pol. You can also go into the town center and continue to Calella, while discovering the natural and cultural heritage.
If you like walking or mountain biking, you will have a great time with this activity! Known as the Tourdera, it is a cycling and hiking route that takes you to discover the fluvial sections of the Tordera river. From its mouth in Malgrat de Mar to its source, in the middle of the Montseny massif, this route will take you to see all kinds of places. In addition to this beautiful excursion, you can also take beautiful walks in the interior of the region, visiting the different mountain ranges.
Another way to enjoy landscapes that seem straight out of fairy tales is to discover the castles in the area. In Canet de Mar you will find the castle of Santa Florentina. In this impressive neo-Gothic fortress, which you can visit today, some scenes from the well-known series Game of Thrones were filmed there.
A little further south, in Vilassar de Dalt, is Vilassar Castle. Its origins are believed to date back to the 10th century, although it has undergone reforms over time. And not far away is the castle of Burriac. Being 400 m above sea level, it is a perfect viewpoint of the Maresme and a nice excursion from Argentona or Cabrera de Mar.
The Maresme has a lot of coastline, and this means that you can really enjoy this beautiful natural resource. The beaches that run along its coast have golden and slightly coarse sand. Take some time to enjoy the water and the sun. Kayak along the coast, learn to paddle surf, or scuba dive. Near Mataró, the capital of Maresme, there are places where you can see a lot of marine fauna. Dive in the bars of Mataró or in the Draga Gran area. Spectacular!
When modernism permeated all of Catalonia with its characteristics, it also bravely did so with Mataró. In the city you can feel a Mediterranean charm that attracts everyone. Stroll through the old town or along the seafront, you'll feel great breathing in the sea air! You can't miss Casa Coll i Regàs and other modernist works.
This building was the work of Josep Puig i Cadafalch, a renowned modernist architect who was born in the town. Joaquim Coll i Regàs, textile entrepreneur, commissioned the house from the architect. It was completed in 1898 and is a great modernist gem, with twisted columns, arches, sculptures, ceramics and wrought iron decoration. At present there are guided tours and, what attracts the most attention, an escape room with a lot of history and art. Getting to know the city and the house are excellent plans!
Towns are unique places where you can discover a lot of history, and the Maresme region is no exception. You will find the curious villages "on top or on the hill" and those "by the sea". The first were settlements created to protect themselves from the pirates who ravaged the coast in the 16th and 17th centuries. Vestiges of this are also some towers, built with the main objective of alerting the population.
Thus, each locality has its own peculiarity. For example, Sant Pol de Mar is known for its beaches and Mediterranean atmosphere where you will also find beautiful modernist houses. In Alella you can visit the cellars and vineyards where a wine with Denomination of Origin is produced. In Caldes d'Estrac enjoy a good lunch or dinner at the beach bars or relax at the spa. Stay in the holiday cottages you will find in the Maresme and enjoy all these towns, their culture, and charm!
The Maresme is a region that you can enjoy in many and varied ways. Visit the towns, take a dip in the sea, go up to a castle, spend an afternoon on a route looking for modernist houses, go to museums… The offer is endless! In addition, in your rural accommodation you can rest as much as you need, while being close to the towns that interest you. Enjoy the calm and relaxed atmosphere they offer you. Come and spend some ideal days in the Maresme and stay in the holiday cottages in the area!
