Between the river Ter and the Sierra de les Gavarres, and only fifteen kilometers from the city of Girona, we find the small municipality of Celrà. A town that preserves an important architectural heritage, both medieval and modernist.

The history of Celrà and its surroundings

In Celrà there are several archaeological sites that show that it was inhabited in the times of the Iberians and the Romans. During the Middle Ages there were three castles: Barbavella, Escala or Celrà and Palagret. The urban center originated in the 11th century around the old church of Sant Feliu and little by little farming increased and many farmhouses were built that can still be seen today.

Know the architectural heritage

If you spend a few days in a holiday cottage in Celrà, you should know that the historic center retains many vestiges of its medieval past. Another jewel of the medieval period can be found in the neighborhood of Mas Pedró , the Torre Desvern , a fortified farmhouse built between the 12th and 15th centuries and renovated in the 18th.
