The history of Vilers dates back to the Middle Ages. In the past, it was part of the county of Besalú and is divided into three population centers. The peace and calm that reigns in the town invites you to take silent walks through the forest. There are also restaurants where you can try local and traditional Catalan dishes.
Vilert preserves one of the oldest parishes that come from the Carolingian era. Although it is a Romanesque building, a Gothic portal was built in 1426. The apse and two apsidioles, the belfry box and part of the exterior walls are preserved from the original building.
One of the buildings with the most history in Vilers is the medieval castle of Les Anglades. During its existence it has passed through different owners such as Mr. de Sales or the Banyoles monastery. Today, some remains remain and you can also appreciate the pits that surrounded the building and the cistern.
Vilert is surrounded by small hills. You can plan an excursion with the family and reach some of the peaks where you can contemplate magnificent views of the entire town. There are also many signposted paths where you can go hiking or mountain biking.
