If you like medieval heritage, you can enjoy it in Serra de Daró, a municipality in the Baix Empordà located very close to La Bisbal d'Empordà and bathed by two rivers.
The origins of the town can be traced back to the Iberians and the Romans, since remains of an Iberian city related to that of Ullastret have been found and in the direction of Empúries you can find a small bridge from the Roman era. The toponym of Serra de Daró appears, for the first time, in a document from the year 1017 and there is reference to its belonging to the abbey of Sant Esteve de Banyoles. Shortly after, in 1123, Bishop Berenguer of Girona consecrated the church of Sant Iscle d'Empordà.
The essentials of Sant Iscle are several: To begin with the town itself, a beautiful group of stone houses grouped around the castle and the church. Also the castle, whose origins date back to the 13th century or the church of Sant Iscle and Santa Julita , built the first in the 12th century and in Romanesque style and the second in Baroque style, added in 1632. As a monument more relevant is the church of Santa Maria , built at the end of the 19th century on top of an earlier one from the 17th century, a temple with a single nave and a basilica plan with side chapels and a polygonal apse.
If you want to walk or bike, you're in luck. The flat landscape of Baix Empordà is ideal for routes for the whole family. If you prefer cultural tourism, you can visit the Enlace Art Progress gallery , where you can see the works of the best contemporary artists from Emporda.
