Do you want to visit the Gala Dalí castle in Púbol and enjoy a village with a medieval aftertaste? Towards La Pera there is a shortage of people! One of the most emblematic towns in the Baix Empordà, known above all for being part of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation exhibition space route.
La Pera is mentioned for the first time in 982 and assigned to the jurisdiction of the monastery of Ripoll. The toponym, which comes from the Latin petra, pedra, designates the hill on which the upper part of the municipality rests, with very peculiar rock formations. In later medieval documents, as early as the 13th century, the town was called Pirus because of a wrong translation.
If you are staying in a holiday cottage in La Pera, you cannot miss the church of Sant Pere de Púbol, a Gothic building that incorporates two chapels in the central body, the church of Sant Isidor de la Pera, from the 16th century, d an interesting Gothic-Renaissance style and, obviously, the castle-palace of Púbol . La Pera's great appeal. An eleventh-century fortification with Gothic and Renaissance additions that was the residence of the Gala-Dalí couple and houses Gala's tomb.
You can also take advantage of your stay in La Pera to stroll through the steep alleys with a medieval air and discover the hidden corners of the old town or get closer, for example to Rupià Castle or to visit the Padró monumental complex in Madremanya.
