A little gem hidden in the north-east of Gironès. This is Juià, a small town located at the foot of the Gavarres massif, ideal for enjoying rural tranquility.
If you spend a few days in Juià, you can note down the following essentials: First, the parish church of Sant Pere which, although the original construction was probably Gothic, is of Renaissance style and stands out for its unfinished bell tower. Of course, to get to know the architectural heritage of Juià you have to leave the town and approach, for example, the remains of the castle from where you will have a spectacular panorama of the Ter valley. The castle, by the way, was part of a series of fortresses that existed in these foothills of the Gavarres. The other heritage element worth seeing are the remains of the convent of Sant Joan de l'Erm .
Feel like walking? Juià has an environment that invites you to go deep into the nearby woods and even reach the Àngels sanctuary, a symbol of the Sierra de les Gavarres. An excursion of just over an hour that is worth doing. One of the routes around the area that is worthwhile is the one that allows you to get to know the lime kilns and the tiling.
You can take advantage of your stay in Juià to get to know, for example, the city of Girona and its Barri Vell. Or go east and get closer to two of the most charming towns in Catalonia: Monells and Peratallada, two medieval gems that you'll find less than twenty minutes away. Also worth a visit is La Bisbal d'Empordà, capital of Baix Empordà, known for its excellent popular and decorative ceramics.
