In the small town of Beuda, located in La Garrotxa and very close to Besalú, you can find very authentic holiday cottages and ideal tourist accommodation to enjoy this town which is the perfect mix between nature and medieval architecture. A village for hiking lovers who want to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle.

What can I do in Beuda and its holiday cottages?

The perfect communion between nature and medieval architecture. This is what we will find in Beuda, a small town in La Garrotxa, nestled between the Mont massif and the Fluvià valley. An ideal place for a quiet and rural stay.

The history of Beuda and its surroundings

The history of Beuda is closely linked to that of the viscounty of Bas, one of the feudal jurisdictions of the county of Besalú, of which it was part. And, in fact, Beuda Castle belonged to the Viscounts until the end of the 13th century. From 1308 it passed into the hands of Jaume de Besora, lord of Rocabruna. A curious fact of Beuda's history is that the writer Jacint Verdaguer speaks of it in his book Excursions i viatges as the first place where the traditional candies were heard singing.

What to do during your stay at a tourist accommodation in Beuda

Get to know the town and its architectural heritage

If you spend a few days in Beuda, you can already note a few essentials: First, the walls of the old castle of the Moors , documented before the year 1000, the church of Sant Feliu , a Romanesque temple from the 11th century or the bridge over the river Llierca , an outstanding work of Catalan Romanesque. It is also worth coming to Segueró to visit Can Noguer , one of the most important estates in Catalonia in the 18th and 19th centuries. Just below you will find Santa Maria de Segueró , a Romanesque church built in the 11th century that has a single nave, a peculiar apse and a fortification on the facade.

Make excursions around Beuda

If you like hiking, you're in luck. If you want to walk, you can approach the sanctuary of the Virgin of the Mountain , a symbolic place for Catalan culture. You can also opt for the route that goes from Beuda to Sant Miquel de Coma de Roure, or the short route to the Quera fountain, which will allow you to see the silhouette of Beuda Castle , very peculiar. It is also worth visiting the caves of the Carlí cave.

JeroenCa l'Hortalà - With the family

Two weeks at Ca l'Hortalà, a perfect base for exploring Girona and beyond

We arrived at Ca l'Hortalà on the 17th of July and stayed for two full weeks, which turned out to be exactly the right amount of time to properly explore the region. The house itself is modern, spacious, and spotless, and having the small heated pool right there made all the difference in the July heat. We also made good use of the community swimming pool in the village, which was a nice way to cool off and get a bit of local flavor alongside the residents. Tortellà itself is small but has everything you actually need day to day. The local supermarket isn't big, but it covers the essentials without a hassle, so we didn't need to drive to a bigger town for basics. There are also a couple of good local bars in the village for a relaxed evening drink or a bite to eat, nothing fancy, but exactly the kind of authentic, low key atmosphere you want on a countryside stay. Its location in La Garrotxa made it an ideal base for day trips. We explored Figueres, Girona, and Besalú by car, all easy drives, and for Barcelona we took the train from Figueres, which was a relaxed and easy way to spend the day in the city without worrying about parking or traffic. Besalú in particular was a highlight, with its medieval bridge and old town feeling like stepping back in time, while Girona's cathedral and old quarter were well worth the wander. Figueres was a fun stop too, especially for anyone interested in Dalí. Coming back each evening to a quiet, comfortable house with the pool, the village bars, and everything within easy reach was the perfect way to end the day. Two weeks felt like enough time to properly settle in rather than rush from place to place, and the house and village together made that kind of relaxed pace easy. Highly recommend Ca l'Hortalà for anyone looking to use Tortellà as a base to explore Girona province. Barcelona is an easy train trip from Figueres if you'd rather skip the drive.

NoraCan Martinot, la casa del riu - With the family

Perfect stay, with improvements

It's a very clean, cozy house and perfect for groups of 12 or 15 people. The facilities are great, although it's built on different levels and we went with a grandmother, access to the different spaces is very complicated and limited. Another improvement would be the issue of mosquito nets or some type of prevention, it's a space with a lot of mosquitoes and flies. The rest, a 10.

Naturaki respond: Thank you very much, Nora, for your comment. We are glad to know that you enjoyed the house. We take note of your observations and will review it for improvement. Thanks for the visit!.

Fantastic stay, we didn't lack anything!

A beautiful village house, very well decorated, clean and equipped with all facilities. The owners are lovely: communication was very good and they welcomed us with a delicious welcome pack. In addition, we went with a baby and they provided us with a crib and high chair. The pool and barbecue area is fantastic and very well maintained. Overall, a ten out of ten stay. Highly recommended!.

Recommended stay with good treatment

The treatment from the owner was very good, a shower failed us, it didn't drain. When you connect all the electrical appliances (mostly heaters + dishwasher) the fuses blow. But apart from that, the stay is highly recommended.

Naturaki respond: Thank you very much for your opinion, Eva, and for highlighting the good treatment. We are sorry for the incidents you had during your stay. We will review these aspects to be able to solve them and improve the experience. However, we are glad to know that, despite these inconveniences, you enjoyed your stay and would recommend it.

The house is located in a very nice environment

There is a bathroom missing on the floor where there are 4 rooms. It would be nice if there were some chairs in the rooms. There is no drainer in the kitchen.

Naturaki respond: We greatly appreciate your comments and suggestions regarding the distribution and equipment of the house. We take note to improve and make future stays even more comfortable. Thank you for helping us improve!
