What is the sound of the Costa Brava in the summer? Some will say that sounds like the sea breeze, the waves of the sea, or that is a mixture of foreign languages on the terraces of the bars … but no, the Costa Brava in the summer sounds like music and Festivals!
It is at this time of the year when this wonderful place is filled with festivals where artists like Bob Dylan, Julio Iglesias, Sara Baras have participated… and in the summer the music doesn’t stop.
After having had the privilege to see the performance of these festivals, we have prepared our top 5:
Cap Roig Festival
With an outdoor setting with seating for 2,118 spectators takes place in a stunning natural setting of 17 hectares on the seafront in one of the most important botanical gardens in the Mediterranean in Calella de Palafrugell. We are not lying, the views are spectacular. If you do not like any of the artists involved (would be strange as there are for everyone’s taste, you can even find Peppa Pig) or the dates are not suitable for you, you can also visit the garden! In spring it’s an explosion of colour.
The Porta Ferrada Festival
In Sant Feliu de Guíxols, it impregnates every corner of the Catalan village of the best cultural offer, in a unique environment to fully enjoy all their proposals. It’s an indescribable pleasure to hear Ludovico Einaudi piano in a place like Sant Feliu de Guíxols harbour with the moon and the smell of the sea in the background. It gives you goosebumps!
The Castell de Peralada Festival
Has the whole medieval Peralada Castle as a stage with its gardens. The Auditorium, located in the Castle gardens, is ideal for concerts in the summer evenings. Opera, ballet, theater …it offers options for everyone. Besides the Festival, Peralada life revolves around wine culture, therefore, if you like, before the concert, you can make a visit to the Wine Cellar, right next to the Castle.
In the village of L’Escala, it has emblematic scenes of the village as the Sea of Manassa and the Archaeological Site of Empúries. It offers concerts, cultural exhibitions, screenings, visual arts, panel discussions and other events. We can say that listen to Manel with the illuminated Site of Empúries as stage and feeling the chilly breeze is priceless.
The Í-taca Festival
Is a festival that includes cultural proposals at an affordable price. To fight the unfair VAT of 21%, all entries in the festival are apples. This way the public can save the abusive tax and pay only 4%! It takes place in several towns of the Empordà and we can find both music and theater, lectures, etc.
So you know, if you like music and the breeze of summer nights (a unique tandem), the Costa Brava gives you options. Take a look at its festivals!
