Curiosities of Vilanova de Segrià
All this territory of Segrià was populated after the reconquest with people who came from the Pyrenees . On the occasion of a population charter from the year 1231, the Templars founded a castle and a few houses, a nucleus that ended up receiving the name of Vilanova de Riudovelles . When Vilanova was united with Castellnou de Segrià it was called Vilanova de Segrià.

The Church of Sant Sebastià , located in the historic center of the town, dates from the 13th century in a Romanesque transition to Gothic style.
On a hill, close to the current town, are the remains of the old Castellnou de Segrià castle , a stronghold of the Knights Templar in the 14th century.
