Les
Basses d'Alpicat are a unique entity with a population of 879 inhabitants on the outskirts of
Lleida and well known for having a municipal park where there was a campsite and the largest swimming pools in the city. The park, of
180,000 square meters, was created with the aim of placing two large tanks to supply the city of Lleida with water from Pinyana. In the 1950s, the area was converted into a park with five different swimming pools and by the 1980s, it had an athletics track and a campsite. Although life in Les Basses was intense, the project from the 90s began to lose strength and they ended up closing in 2003.
If you visit Alpicat, stop by Les Basses because it is now a project under development that revives the memory and soothes the hearts of Lleida residents.
On the City Council's website you will find information on very interesting
routes such as the
tossal de la Teuleria Vella , a hill located to the north-west of the town of Alpicat from where you can enjoy an archaeological site, which dates from the bronze age, and wonderful views of La Seu Vella de Lleida, as well as the Prades and Montsant mountains. There is also the
Camí Natural route, which follows the route of the Alpicat ditch and the Robinals canal for about 12 km. And another very good option is the
Rec Nou route, only 3 km long, which follows an ancient medieval path between fruit fields.
In
Segrià, the heat is noticeable during the summer months, so depending on when you plan your
holiday cottage , you will like to go to the municipal swimming pools of the
Parc del Graó sports complex or
the Alpipark, a water park located to 3 Km. of the town, equipped with bar service and barbecue area.
And for
horse riding lovers, there is the
Champion Horse Club , facilities just two and a half kilometers from the town where you can train, have lunch and spend the day with family or friends.
