Every corner of Tossa de Mar is poetic: the emblematic Tossa Castle, strolling through the so-called Vila Vella, the center of the city, swimming in Cala es Codolar, reaching the lighthouse and contemplating the views it offers... All these experiences and many more are possible to enjoy through all our rural houses and tourist accommodation that you can find in the area of Toss
Tossa is internationally renowned for its objective beauty. But really few people have looked into its history. Already since the Paleolithic the town of Tossa has been actively populated and so on up to the present day.
The famous Tossa Castle was built in 1187 by the abbot of Ripoll, who also gave the green light to build inside and outside the fortified area. This allowed the progressive growth of Vila Vella, that is to say, of the town itself. Nowadays, however, we can no longer enjoy the castle tower as it was, since it was demolished in 1917 for the construction of the current Tossa lighthouse.
Today Tossa is one of the most renowned towns and cities on the Costa Brava. Located halfway between France and the Catalan capital, Tossa de Mar is one of the most sought-after destinations to spend your summer holidays in an apartment or rural house.
The Castle of Tossa is an emblematic sign of the village. Standing just a few meters from the urban core, thousands of tourists go for a walk through its perfectly preserved narrow stone streets.
The town itself does not have large dimensions, which allows you to take a tour of its alleys by foot and enjoy each of the steps. Currently, there are several shopping streets with several emblematic shops of the city. In addition, another of the relevant items is the Virgen de los Socorros, a white chapel that was built during the time of the pirates.
Tossa has a large beach, called Playa Gran, located in the bay of the town. However, we should not only stay with the cover of the book, it's also interesting that we get lost in other coves and beaches outside the urban center such as Mar Menuda, Reig or Es Codolar
At 60 meters above sea level we find the Tossa Lighthouse, the highest part of Vila Vella. Currently, the lighthouse, which was built in 1917 due to the lack of signage between Palamós and Calella. It also houses the Mediterranean Lighthouse Interpretation Centre.
