Do you want to enjoy a seaside town with beaches and coves surrounded by pine forests? Sant Feliu de Guíxols offers you a wide range of activities: cultural, recreational or sporting.
The origins of Sant Feliu can be found in the 4th century, since it seems that the toponym of Guíxols refers to some kind of fort of Iberian origin. Already in the Middle Ages, a Benedictine monastery was established in Sant Feliu, which held the feudal lordship of the area until well into the 19th century, coinciding with the decline of the political system of the Ancien Régime. Until that moment, Sant Feliu de Guíxols was recognized in the maritime and fishing area, especially for its artisan industries of saltwater, as well as those of weaving nets and building ships, especially between the 16th and 17th centuries. The cork industry was also important, which began to develop in the 18th century and which, today, is still relevant. The industrial power of the 19th century and the fortunes of the "Indians", who made money in America, contributed to maintaining the wealth and prosperity of the municipality, which since the last half century has had tourism as its protagonist.
If you spend a few days in Sant Feliu, you cannot fail to visit some of the unique civil buildings in the municipality, such as the Casas house, the Lloret house, the Maynegre house, the Maruny house or the Constance casino . Architecturally, the most remarkable thing in the city is its monastery of Sant Feliu , already documented since the 10th century and which has part of the building in Baroque style and the hermitage of Sant Elm, which is a 17th century temple. It also has several museums, such as the Toy History Museum or the Cava and Champagne Plaques museum.
If you want to swim and enjoy the sea, Sant Feliu offers a multitude of beaches and a coastal landscape rich in small coves surrounded by a privileged landscape, such as Sa Caleta, Cala del Vigatà, Cala Jonca or Cala Ametller. If you prefer to walk, you have a natural environment with itineraries such as Collet de la Mare de Déu or Pedralta. There is also a Literary Route of Viewpoints with Women's Occupations that links nine viewpoints named after traditional occupations such as fishmongers, seamstresses or farmers. Other proposals are the Porta Ferrada International Music Festival , which takes place every August.
