Between Riner and Santa Susanna, a necropolis has been found that demonstrates the Roman presence in the area. However, the first written documents that refer to the term do not appear until the 11th century. One of the best times to visit the town is when the Feast of the Three Tombs and Sant Cristòfol is celebrated, during which there is a blessing of vehicles.
Archaeological remains from the Neolithic period have been found in Riner. In addition, there is also an important set of medieval buildings. One of the most important buildings in the town is the Riner Castle. Currently, a rectangular tower is preserved that has a height of 15 meters. Very close to the castle is the church of Sant Martí, a building that was renovated in the 18th century. On the other hand, the presence of medieval farmhouses is also important throughout the area. The most relevant are the Vendrell house, the Fornells house or the Sant Diumenge house.
Throughout the area of Riner you will find different paths that cross the population centers. One of the most well-known is the one that goes to Santa Susanna and follows the route of the old road. Taking these routes you can take the opportunity to get closer to the Sant Ponç marsh or the Xixons mill. If you want to see a landscape of crops and farms, you can continue the route to the parishes of Su and Avellanosa.
