Do you like hiking and mountain biking? Towards Mieres there is a lack of people! A municipality located to the east of La Garrotxa, near the districts of Pla de l'Estany and Gironès.
Although archaeological vestiges have been found in the Serra de Finestres that indicate the human presence in the municipality since the time of the Iberians, the first document in which the place name of Mieres, then Miliarias , appears, is from the year 834. The origin of the town's small towns is medieval and the most relevant moment in its history is the year 1484 when the peasants of Mieres, under the orders of Pere Joan Sala, rose up against the authorities, thus beginning the second War of Remences. In the War of Spanish Independence, already in the 19th century, Mieres was the scene of several confrontations.
If you spend a few days in Mieres, you have a few essentials: At the entrance the church of Sant Pere , a neoclassical temple known for its altarpieces from the 18th and 19th centuries. To the south, you will find the Cellera district, the oldest in Mieres, made up of stone houses from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries and the chapel of Santa Maria de Romeria , from the 11th century. In the neighborhood of Ruïtlles you will also find a small temple of Romanesque origin that is worth seeing: the church of Sant Andreu . Finally, you can get up close to the sculpture of the Lady of the Garrotxa , by Josep Bosch i Puy, which presides over the Iberian town of Sant Aniol de Finestres.
A small part of the village of Mieres, the eastern sector, is part of the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone and you can do several routes on foot or by bike, or even go as far as the Fageda d'en Jordà , fifteen kilometers from the municipality. It is also worth taking the path that connects Mieres with Ruïtlles.
