Surrounded by farmland and forests, we find Les Preses, a small municipality in the Garrotxa region located between Olot and the Vall d'en Bas. Nature is one of the main attractions of this town, as much of its area is included in the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of Garrotxa.

The history of Les Preses and its surroundings

The church of Sant Pere, in Les Preses, has been documented since 922. The area was part of the monastery of Sant Benet de Bages from the mid-10th century until the confiscation of Mendizábal in 1836, when they expropriate the ecclesiastical lands and they were publicly auctioned. According to a local legend, the area where Les Preses is geographically located was occupied by a large lake.

If you like nature, you're in luck. The Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone occupies a large part of the municipal area of Les Preses. If you're feeling naughty, it's worth going to the Xenacs recreational area , which has a range of facilities such as a picnic area, barbecues, bar and restaurant and an interactive forest to discover the native fauna. You can also visit the Pedra Tosca park , a rural and natural space created by farmers in the area and which has recently been recovered for tourism. It consists of two itineraries that can be covered on foot. If what you want is to take the bike, opt for the Via Verda del Carrilet , which goes from Olot to Girona, retracing the tracks of an old railway.
