Do you want to enjoy the Costa Brava and get to know the Cap de Creus Natural Park from the tranquility of a small rural town? La Selva de Mar, located in Alt Empordà, very close to Port de la Selva, is your place. A town with an important architectural heritage that combines the essence of the Mediterranean with the greenery of the Verdera mountain range.
Although a large number of small material remains have been located from the Visigothic period, Saracen and Carolingian rule, it is not until the 10th century that references to La Selva de Mar appear. The first documents, in fact, refer to the church of Sant Esteve de Mata, currently known as Sant Sebastià. At that time, both the church and the valley belonged to the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. It was not until the 15th century that the territory of La Selva de Mar corresponded to the current municipal term, added, of course, to what is today Port de la Selva. Finally, in the middle of the 18th century, the two municipalities separated as Charles III granted Port de la Selva the privilege of 'Villa Real'.
This small town in the Alt Empordà has an important architectural heritage: the five defense towers, the remains of a water mill from the Middle Ages, the fountain of the lledoners, the church of Sant Sebastià and the church of Sant Esteve. Let's start at the beginning: The towers are what remains of the old wall and were built during the 16th and 17th centuries. Two are cylindrical and two rectangular. The Camp de l'Obra tower stands out above all. The church of Sant Sebastià is a magnificent mixture of parish, castle and chapel and dates from the 12th and 15th centuries. Sant Esteve's, on the other hand, is from the 16th century - although it was rebuilt after the Spanish Civil War - and stands out mainly for its immaculate white.
If what you like is walking and enjoying the landscape, you can encourage yourself to discover the Serra de Rodes and climb to the top of the Serra de la Verdera, where there are the remains of the castle of Sant Salvador. You can also choose to do the route par excellence: that of the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, from where you will have even more impressive views. Don't forget your camera, you'll need it.

Cadaqués is much more than a village to bathe on the beach. The beaches of Cadaqués are very rocky, but near the worldwide known picturesque village we find the bay of Portlligat with the island that lies ahead and of which Salvador Dalí was its best known inhabitant. There you will discover the Dali Museum house, where he lived, surrounded by forests and vegetation, a good starting point if you want to access some beautiful beaches around like Cala Sabolla (before the lighthouse Cala Nans). It is not difficult to access and is ideal for rest and relaxation. Here you can find one of the bests “chiringuitos” of Costa Brava.Login to Naturaki
