Do you want to discover a charming town and spend a most peaceful stay near the Costa Brava? Towards Albons, a small town in the Baix Empordà, there are no people!
It is known that the castle of Albons, which currently, and the result of the renovations, looks similar to that of a 15th century farmhouse, was part of the county of Empúries, but was in the possession of the lords of Torroella. Although after the Catalan Civil War, in 1462, the castle returned to the county of Empúries. The name of the town, by the way, comes from the Latin alburnos , which meant a place of inn or residence. And Albons was precisely the place of refuge for the count of Rosselló during the twelfth century.
If you stay in a holiday cottage in Albons, you can't miss, above all, the parish church of Sant Cugat , a Romanesque construction from the 10th-13th centuries built in two phases, the chapel of Sant Grau, an 11th-century church surrounded by pines and oaks and, finally, Albons Castle , a 13th century fortification with visible Renaissance elements. It is also worth walking around the village and discovering the medieval remains of the old town.
If you want to go for a nice walk or practice cycling, we recommend you visit the Valldavià mountain range, where the hermitage of Sant Grau is located. From where, by the way, you will have a mind-blowing panorama of the Empordà plain. The views are a constant in Albons, as the town constitutes a natural border between the plain of Empúries and the interior hills and valleys.
