The history of Aiguamúrcia goes back to the 10th century. During the 12th century the monks of Santes Creus settled there until 1835 when they left the monastery. Other buildings that are of great interest and that you must see are the Palau de l'Abat or Plaça de Sant Bernat.

Wine culture is also deeply rooted in the population. In 1914, the Aiguamúrcia Agricultural Union was founded. Its building was designed by Cèsar Martinell and is in a modernist style. If you are looking for good food, you will also find traditional Catalan cuisine restaurants all over the town.

Visit the monastery of Santes Creus

The monastery of Santes Creus was founded in 1158. Its facade is Romanesque and incorporates a Gothic-style stained glass window. In 1835 it was abandoned by the community of monks who resided there. It stands out for having a very robust structure and a cross-shaped plant. In its interior rest the tombs of the kings Peter II the Great, Jaume II and Blanca d'Anjou. Some of the rooms that can be seen are the cellar, the kitchen, the refectory or the royal palace.
