We encourage you to explore and discover some of the best wineries in Tarragona and taste their wines and local products: robust and aromatic red wines, smooth and bright white wines, and their freshest rosé wines. Don't miss out on the opportunity to taste other fortified wines like mistela, muscatel, rancio wine, and vermouth.

Tarragona is one of the areas with the longest wine-growing traditions in Catalonia, a thousand-year-old tradition of vine cultivation that dates back to the Roman Empire. Some of the best-known Tarragona wine designation of origin include: DO Priorat, DO Montsant, DO Terra Alta, DO Tarragona, DO Conca de Barberà, and DO Penedès

1. Biopaumerà (Rasquera

Phone ready? Our adventure begins in Rasquera, in the Ribera d'Ebre, nestled between the regions of Priorat and Terra Alta. Specifically, at Biopaumerà, the only organic winery of the D.O. Tarragona. Their philosophy? Produce little but well. Sell quality and health. At Biopaumerà, you can find wines like Solus, a young red wine; Helga, a sparkling wine; or Èrika, a rosé made with Cabernet Sauvignon. You also have the chance to visit the century-old and millennia-old vineyards and olive groves to understand how the annual vine cycle works and what practices are necessary to obtain organic agriculture certification. After visiting the vineyards, you'll head to the winery, where the process from harvesting to bottling and ageing will be explained. Finally, you can taste the wines. And, of course, you can buy a bottle.

2. Casa Vermouth Padró (Bràfim

From Rasquera, we move to Bràfim, in the Alt Camp, where we find our next winery: Casa Vermouth Padró. As the name suggests, they specialize in producing various types of vermouth. Want to know a bit more? The origins of the wine tradition at Casa Vermouth Padró date back to 1886 when Daniel Padró and Rosa Valldosera managed a small wine establishment and a distillery. Five generations later, the family continues the same philosophy of selling in bulk and bottling quality wines, mistelas, and vermouths. If you want to experience a unique sensory journey, we invite you to practice vermouth tourism at Casa Vermouth Padró and discover the peculiarities of vermouth production. During the visit, you can see, touch, and smell all the ingredients that shape this iconic aperitif and, of course, taste eight different vermouths. Are you in?

3. Celler Mas Bella (Masmolets)

Don't let the rhythm stop! Our next stop is at Masmolets, at Celler Mas Bella. The establishment is located in a manor house from 1777 that Josep Maria Vilanova and Elisa Ribé have restored to turn it into a winery dedicated to producing white, red, and rosé wines with the Tarragona Designation of Origin. In this way, they have continued the family tradition of their grandfather Daniel, who made wine in the same facilities. For some time now, they offer different types of wine tourism visits: a traditional visit, where you can stroll through the vineyards, learn about the winery, and taste the wines; a picnic visit with local products; and finally, a family experience where the youngest members of the family can learn about the wine-making process and design labels while adults discover the winery.

4. Vins i Olis Suñer (Ginestar

In the ground floor of Casa Pepe, a house in Ginestar from the early 20th century, we find the Suñer winery, where they produce monovarietal wines with Merlot and Macabeo, traditional varieties from Ribera d'Ebre. Vins i Olis Suñer is a family business founded in 1936 by Manuel Suñer, initially dedicated to producing extra virgin olive oil. A few years later, they added bulk wine production. It was not until 1999 that the third generation decided to rebuild the old cellar and produce a select and limited bottled production. Nowadays, they offer two activities of wine and olive oil tourism. First, a visit to the vineyards and the cellar, where they explain how they make the wines and the characteristics of the soil and territory. The activity ends with a tasting of five wines with D.O. Tarragona and, for the youngest, organic grape juice. The second activity consists of a walk through the olive groves and the mill where you will discover how extra virgin olive oil is made. The visit, of course, concludes with a tasting of four olive oils.

5. Celler Adernats - Vinícola de Nulles (Nulles)

Year 1900. After centuries of family plantations and wine productions, the inhabitants of Nulles decided to unite their resources and knowledge to create the Sant Isidre syndicate and build the town's winery, the Wine Cathedral of Nulles. A building constructed by Cèsar Martinell, one of the leading figures of the Modernist movement. All these factors made possible the birth, in 1987, of Adernats. A brand of wines and cavas from the D.O. Tarragona and D.O. Cava with over 17 bottled products made at the Wine Cathedral of Nulles. From Adernats, they offer various wine tourism activities: a visit with a tasting at the Wine Cathedral, a route among vineyards with a tasting of five wines, and a gourmet tasting with cold meats and cheeses. Which one do you choose?

6. Caves Oriol Rossell (Sant Marçal)

Photo: Caves Oriol RossellPhoto: Caves Oriol Rossell

Caves Oriol Rossell is a small family business dedicated to producing cava and wines from their estate. What does this mean? That all the grapes come from their own vineyards, and each is assigned a specific product. All the vineyards also have organic certification. The reigning variety at Cal Cassanyes, the estate of Oriol Rossell, is Xarel·lo, established in the Penedès for hundreds of years.

7. Buil & Giné (Gratallops

At Buil & Giné, you'll discover Priorat through their wines. It is a family winery, located next to Gratallops, in the region of Priorat, recognized for its quality wine production under the designation of origin D.O. Priorat and D.O. Montsant. Founded with the aim of recovering the wine-making traditions of the region while betting on innovation, Buil & Giné has achieved a perfect combination of respect for the past and a modern vision of oenology. The winery cultivates native varieties like Garnacha and Cariñena, adapting to the unique characteristics of the Priorat's slaty soils, which impart unmistakable minerality to their wines. Each bottle reflects the uniqueness of the Mediterranean landscape, with wines full of complexity, structure, and elegance.

8. Cooperative Falset Marçà (Falset)

The Falset Marçà Cooperative, founded in 1912, is an emblematic entity of the Priorat region, representing the value of collaboration and the wine-making tradition of the region. With over 100 years of history, this cooperative continues to maintain the spirit in which it was created: uniting the efforts of local small producers to create quality wines that reflect the essence of the territory. With vineyards located in a privileged environment under the appellations D.O. Montsant and D.O. Priorat, the cooperative produces wines that capture the singularity of its soils, marked by slate and the Mediterranean climate. The main grape varieties are Garnacha and Cariñena, two native varieties that offer deep wines with personality and structure. They offer various wine tourism activities and guided tours of their impressive modernist cellar, designed by architect Cèsar Martinell, a disciple of Gaudí.

9. Celler Bàrbara Forés (Gandesa

A few vineyards, three women, and a winery. This is Celler Bàrbara Forés, a family project with deep roots in Terra Alta. Founded over 100 years ago, the vineyards of Bàrbara Forés are currently cultivated under certified organic practices, ensuring sustainable viticulture that respects the territory. One of the star varieties of the winery is the white Garnacha, emblematic of Terra Alta, but they also work with other native varieties like the Morenillo, a black grape variety they have helped to recover and value.

10. Celler Mas Foraster (Montblanc

Celler Mas Foraster is a family business located in Montblanc, in the heart of the D.O. Conca de Barberà, with a wine tradition that goes back several generations. One of the particularities of Celler Mas Foraster is its commitment to certified organic viticulture, with which they cultivate their own vineyards following sustainable and environmentally respectful methods. The winery's philosophy is to let nature speak for itself, with minimal intervention in the winemaking process. Native varieties play a central role, with special attention to Trepat, the most representative grape of the Conca de Barberà, known for its freshness and delicate character. In addition to Trepat, they work with other varieties like Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon. They also offer a wide range of wine tourism experiences.

If you are a wine lover and enjoy practicing wine tourism, you are in the right place: Catalonia is a territory rich in viticulture, so we invite you to visit and discover some of the best wineries in Alt Empordà in the province of Girona.
