Sant Gregori marks the eastern entrance to the Llémena valley and is an ideal area for hiking and mountain bike routes. Are you excited to meet him?
Sant Gregori is located in an area with evidence of human settlements since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the archaeological remains found in the region. However, its development as an organized community occurred mainly during the Middle Ages. During the Middle Ages, Sant Gregori was part of the County of Girona and was under the influence of several feudal lords and noble families.
In the village of Sant Gregori and its surroundings, there are several interesting places to visit and enjoy its rural charm and its history. At the entrance, you cannot miss the church of Sant Gregori and the castle of Sant Gregori, also known as Casal dels Margarit . An elegant fortified building from the 14th century which, although it has been renovated, still retains a few original architectural elements. The church, which is located very close by, dates from the 11th century. If what you want is to have spectacular views, approach the chapel of Sant Grau , from the 16th century, and the castle of Tudela, an 11th century building of which only some remains of the tower of homage and of some walls.
Sant Gregori and its surroundings offer numerous options for hiking and mountain biking. You can take the route that goes from the parish church to the hermitage of Sant Grau, where you will find a viewpoint with amazing panoramas over the Pyrenees, the Ter river, the Llémena valley and the Girona plain. In addition, in Sant Gregori there is a BTT center where they have information and detailed maps on routes through the town suitable for the whole family. Among others, the one from the sources of Sant Gregori or the one that goes from Sant Gregori to Santa Afra stand out.
