The history of Riudaura and its surroundings

The history of Riudaura is closely linked to the foundation of the monastery of Santa Maria , in the middle of the 9th century. Over the years, the importance of the monastery-priory decreased until in 1592 it became part of that of Sant Pere de Camprodon. Among the traditions of the town, the Roser festival stands out, in which the Gambeto dance is danced.

If you spend a few days in Riudaura, it is worth visiting, first of all, the only vestige of the old Benedictine monastery. A cylindrical tower located next to the parish church. Among the scattered farmhouses, it is worth highlighting the one in Plana de Croanyes , from the 9th century. If you like to walk, you can walk the paths of the municipality and enjoy its forests or follow the ten kilometer route, perfectly signposted, that connects Riudaura with Olot following the footsteps of the pugs. Part of the town, by the way, is part of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park.
