Quart is an extensive municipality in the Gironès known for its tradition in the world of pottery, a tradition that dates back to the medieval period. An ideal destination for lovers of active tourism.
Although there are no precise records of its first settlements, the area is known to have been inhabited since prehistoric times due to the presence of archaeological remains, such as dolmens and stone tools, that have been found in the region . During the Roman era, Quart and its surroundings were part of the province of Hispania Tarraconensis. Roman vestiges have been found in the area, such as the remains of villas and archaeological objects, which indicate the Roman presence in the region. During the Middle Ages, it was part of the county of Besalú and was under the influence of the counts of Barcelona. The strategic location of Quart, near the river Ter and on the route between Girona and Vic, made it a contested place during the wars and conflicts of the time.
If you spend a few days in Quart, you can't miss the parish church of Santa Margarida. A temple of Romanesque origin but modified in the 18th century. One of the most outstanding elements is the Romanesque bell tower. It is also worth walking through the narrow cobbled streets of the old quarter, which invite you to stroll and discover its history and architecture. Finally, approach the Terracotta Museum , located in the old Can Ginesta barn, which highlights and dignifies the tradition of Quart as a historical producer of black terracotta.
Do you feel like going for a walk? The old Carrilet line passed through Quart, the train that connected Girona and Sant Feliu de Guíxols, now converted into a fantastic greenway for walking or cycling.
